Has anyone stayed at the Maui Kai? I don%26#39;t go until next year but I think that this is the place I%26#39;d like to stay. I saw a few reviews but just looking for more.
Maui Kai
Aloha Michael,
I have visited friends staying in the Maui Kai more than a few times and also at the Mahana which is right next door. The pool at the Maui Kai is not ocean front and the one at the Mahana is. The Maui Kai seems older and a bit in need of some attention, the Mahana on the other hand is just so very well maintained. The other plus for the Mahana is that the bedrooms are also ocean front. I don%26#39;t think you would be unhappy with the Maui Kai...it has the same proximity to the ocean that the Mahana does, but it just doesn%26#39;t seem to be as well cared for. That is just my own personal opinion though. You can view both of these resorts on wizardpub.com and make a comparison if you want to.
Maui Kai
We recently learned that the Maui Kai condo we%26#39;ve loved for years has been sold and we%26#39;ve been bumped by relatives of the new owner.
For the times we need (mid-Feb of next year) there isn%26#39;t one Studio available through VRBO.com listings.
If you can%26#39;t find anything, you might give the Mahana (next door) a try; we located a couple of units at similar prices to Maui Kai.
Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I will take a look into Mahana. Mahalo (did i spell that right?)

Are you sure you are referring to the Maui Kai?
There are several studios wide open for Feb at vrbo.

I myself am not going until 2009 but even after checking the Mahana, I still like the Maui Kai better. I looked at 40 reviews and only found two that were dissapointed. Hopefully, they%26#39;ll still be around for next year. I am very much looking forward to staying there.
Hey Eastco,
Really appreciate all the listings. Just after hitting the send button, I thought ';you should have included a qualifier along the lines of ';within budget, acceptable features etc';.
Anyway, I received a semi-encouraging email over the weekend and looks as though we may be OK for our dates; new owner promises a firm commitment no later than end of May. For what it%26#39;s worth, here are a few notes on the units you linked.
Last three digits 237. Looks extremely nice; especially the directors chairs on the Lanai. We go during Whale season and it%26#39;s a BIG ++ to be able to look over the safety rails, rather than through. The only drawback for us is the price: $229.
Both 682 and 505 (and several other MK units) have expanded interior living areas and eliminated the lanai. We rented one years ago and didn%26#39;t enjoy it nearly as much. All of the Maui Kai condos we stayed in have auto switches that turn off the air conditioning when opening the windows/doors facing the ocean. Much of the time, this is no biggie, but sometimes (especially afternoon) it%26#39;s nice to have the option of a cool condo after spending time on the lanai.
Unit 183 is on the ground floor. Long story, but we once were temporarily stuck in one of these and it was not pleasant; not much privacy and view nowhere near as good as second + floors.
If desired Michael I%26#39;ll update on availability of the unit were hoping to rent. It%26#39;s on the 4th floor. Am sure the new owner will up the rate from the $150 we had (those returning guest discounts are great while they last), but it still should be at, or less than, $200. Failing this, I did locate a couple of attractively priced Mahana studios; both having what seem to be very nice (and patient/understanding) owners.
Btw, Eastco, are you sticking with Pacific Beach Hotel? If yes, I%26#39;d sure appreciate your opinion (ref ';Not sure what to think of this hotel'; thread).

Kamaa,
I think I%26#39;d like to get a corner unit but I look forward to your review when you get back. Please send me a message so I don%26#39;t miss it. Have a great time and don%26#39;t eat all of the macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup. Enjoy.
Hi Michael,
Haven%26#39;t come closer myself than many dreams, but our family Orthopod rented MK 301 earlier this year (between my Wife%26#39;s knee last year, my back and grandkids broken bones, we probably comp%26#39;d his entire trip).
He%26#39;s a suite at the Hyatt kind of guy, but loved it.

Just got a PM from another member saying link didn%26#39;t connect; let%26#39;s try this:

I just saw it. Wow it looks great. The only thing I don%26#39;t like it the shared coin operated washer and dryer. Any other condos (cheaper rates) had them right in the unit and it was free.
Thanks for the link.
