trip report

i just got back from my 4th trip to maui / kihei and must admit the glow is finally beginning to wear off but i still enjoyed it. so relaxing to feel the cool breeze in the morning and watch the sunset in evening if haze permits. haze (vog) from volcano on big island depending on wind direction. see maui news website for weather and snorkel conditions.

best adventure was the blue water rafting express to molokini outside crater where water is deep and visiblity excellent. there was also a recent report in the maui newspaper about 2 home (condo) invasions in kihei assaulted (hospitalized) single occupant. police said doors were not locked.

trip report

Would love to hear more about your trip. Any favorite places you ate?

That%26#39;s a shame about the break-ins!! I am sorry to hear that people are hospitalized. I had not heard this.

trip report

hi my first trip is in june.. was the vog bad every day? i am becoming concerned since many have commented on it. did you think it was the same as the mexico fire smoke that south texas has every May? on those vog days is it all day? i hope it clears out by then ...THANKS!

my favorite place to eat in maui is any place with fresh seafood, wine, and view of ocean. i was in maui 13 days and only saw the vog (or haze) about 3 or 4 days (depends on direction of wind from volcano on big island). vog kind of looks like bad air pollution. following copy of article on kihei condo invasion:

KIHEI — Police are reminding residents to lock their doors and be aware of suspicious activity in the wake of two home-invasion robberies in Kihei in the past week.

In each robbery, a resident was beaten and suffered serious injuries, said Lt. John Jakubczak of the Criminal Investigation Division. Valuables were taken from both residences, Jakubczak said.

While detectives are still investigating whether the robberies are linked, there were similarities between the two cases, Jakubczak said.

One robbery was reported around 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kihei Alii Kai condominium complex at 2387 South Kihei Road.

A man who was home alone suffered a broken nose after being beaten, Jakubczak said. Cash and other items were stolen from the home.

The second robbery occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kihei Regency Apartments at 2441 South Kihei Road when at least two males entered a unit.

A man at the home suffered facial fractures after being beaten and struck over the head with glass bottles, Jakubczak said.

The man was hospitalized overnight before being released Thursday from Maui Memorial Medical Center. Jewelry was stolen from the residence, Jakubczak said.

In both cases, doors to the residences were unlocked, Jakubczak said.

He said detectives are continuing to investigate the robberies.

Police are asking anyone who might have seen anything suspicious at the complexes at the time of the robberies to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 244-6425 or the Kihei Police Station at 875-8190.

Police issued a reminder that residents not leave doors open and identify anyone who comes to the door.

“Don’t let strangers into the house,” Jakubczak said. “If something seems suspicious, give the police a call.”

In an emergency, calls can be made to 911. Other calls can be made to police at 244-6400.
