Turtles on NOrth SHore?

Aloha

My parents were on a tour of the NOrth SHore last year and the tour stopped in a spot near the TUrtle Bay Resort where they say there were many turtles and people were snorkeling in the waters. I have searched and cannot find any information on a spot like this. Can anyone tell me where this is?

Is the snorkeling fairly good in this area? or is the main attraction the turtles, which would be fun!

Thanks so much for any help

Some of the commercial tours stop at Laniakea Beach (aka Turtle Beach).

It is about 1/2 way between Haleiwa %26amp; Waimea Bay.

Some people snorkel there. But snorkeling is better at Shark%26#39;s Cove. Don%26#39;t know about turtles there, but There are turtles in many places on Oahu.

there we%26#39;re people snorkling when we stopped at lanikea beach but they we%26#39;re crowding in on the turtles that we%26#39;re tryig to come on shore that they never did.the turtle guardians on the beach kept telling them to back off.can%26#39;t tell you how good the snorkling was but these people sure were%26#39;nt being considerate of the people on the beach or the turtles.

People call this place turtle beach and it is on the way to Turtle Bay resort. When driving to Turtle Bay from the West side you can%26#39;t miss it. Cars and sometimes buses are parked on both sides of the road near the beach (which you can%26#39;t really see but you can see water) there is a large shoulder on the south side, or the right side of the road when you are driving from the west to Turtle Bay. There are no signs so you just have to keep your eyes open. Crossing the road can be dangerous because of traffic so be careful. If there are turtles on the beach there are usually red ropes set up around them and volunteers that watch that no one gets to close. The turtles are no longer endangered put they are threatened. Swimming with the turtles is best done in the summer months as the waves can be unpredictable in the winter. The only tour book I have found with a map of the location of ';turtle beach'; is ';Oahu Revealed';. It is a great, very honest book that I would recommend to anyone coming to Hawaii. I send it to all my visitors before they come to visit.

Great advice! Thanks so much.

I was wondering if the beach is rocky or with coral on the bottom (as opposed to sandy) I was trying to avoid taking ';water shoes'; in my luggage, but I know it is a good idea if you are swimming in rocky/coral areas.

drove by last week at Laniakea (Turtle Beach) and one ';big'; old green turtle basked in the sun. A lot of people traveling to the north shore by way of Haleiwa, stopped creating a traffic jam and alot of people taking pictures with volunteers monitoring the general public to keep away.

This is the same beach that the monk seals also bask in the sun.

Hope you get to see either one basking in the sun.
