Take Half a Day on Oahu?

We have a vacation coming up in June, split five nights between Kauai and the Big Island. Everything is settled except the interisland flight. Since all the flights go require a stopover in Honolulu, my wife inquired as to whether it would be worthwhile to make that stopover a bit longer and spend 1/2 a day seeing Waikiki, the Pearl Harbor Memorial, etc.

My initial thought is that this is probably more trouble than it%26#39;s worth. I definitely don%26#39;t want to add a car rental in, and there%26#39;s the question of what to do with our bags while we%26#39;re tooling around on Oahu for 1/2 a day.

Does anybody know if this would be feasible (without a lot of headaches)? Are there large lockers, for instance, at the airport? Is the airport an easy shuttle ride to the Waikiki area, and how does one get to the Pearl Harbor Memorial?

Any advice to bolster my ';not a good idea'; response would be appreciated :-)

okay here you go definitely not a good idea there is nowhere to leave yor bags at the airport so you would have to rent a car not worth it for 1/2 a day.

oahu is a beautiful island and has so much to see and do it deserves more than just 1/2 a day so many people treat it like the redheaded stepchild of the hawaiian islands imo.

just enjoy your time on kauai and the big island there will be plenty of shooping for your wife and next trip devote more time to oahu and see pearl harbor and the other great sites on oahu.

It really is too bad that you will miss Oahu -- It%26#39;s beautiful and Waikiki is alot of fun!

But if you are splitting 5 days between Kauai and the Big Island, you%26#39;ll have your fill of airports and hussling around -- so I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s a good idea to try and see Oahu on a layover.

Your suitcases should be checked for your next flight, so I don%26#39;t know that it%26#39;s a problem. However, their are very strict restrictions on what you can take to the Memorial. Logistically - Pearl Harbor takes time and you may have to (probably) stand in line. The Memorial is in the middle of the Harbor -- and you are shuttled out on a tender. Again, all this is time consuming, and making your flight would be dicey.

Waikiki -- about 30 minutes from the Airport. Cabs are about $30 each way. Again -- you wouldn%26#39;t have much time ... and you would still need to go through security when you got back to the airport.

I would stay put at the airport ... hang out and plan your next trip to Oahu!
