getting around

I%26#39;m going to Hawaii for the first time this summer and will be there for a month in Honolulu. What is the best way to get around? I am walking distance from work, but I%26#39;ll need a way to get around in my free time for sightseeing, etc. Is there a good public transportation or should I try renting a car on the weekends? I%26#39;m on a pretty tight budget so I%26#39;m not looking to spend a ton. Thanks!

A month will give you lots of time to see Oahu.

So you can get a monthly bus pass ($40) %26amp; occasionally rent a car.

You can rent a car for a day at many places on Oahu, especially in Waikiki.

Lots of info:

Dusty? Have you changed your mind?

The Bus is excellent and a great way to see the sites. You can easily rent a car when you need to - for a day or two. The Trolley is not so good ...

Not at all.

If the OP had said he would have been on Oahu for one week, my answer would have been to rent a car the entire time.

Because the OP has an entire month and on a tight budget, my answer was different.

With an entire month, its no big deal to waste some time taking the bus.

If the OP rents a car for about 5-7 days total, he/she can easily see the entire island.
