Polihale & Maha';ulepu Beach access

I was wondering if anyone who been to these beaches lately could report on the conditions of the roads to the beaches? I will be there in 3 weeks to enjoy.

Polihale %26amp; Maha';ulepu Beach access

When we went to Maha%26#39;ulepu (2 months ago) the roads were great. People are urged to drive *slowly* through these cane roads, as they are private property. We had no trouble finding it (with the directions of Kauai Revealed book). It was absolutely gorgeous ~ had a feeling of total serenity there. Saw some locals playing with an octopus (don%26#39;t know if that was a good idea!). As for conditions, you%26#39;ll most likely have to check when you are there.

Enjoy!!

We were there in early March. The road to Polihale had just reopened and was in the best shape we%26#39;ve seen it in the 6 times we%26#39;ve been to Kauai. The road to Maha';ulepu Beach was about the same as always. Both had a fair amount of traffic on them when we were there.

Forgot to mention---you may not want to go to either place after it%26#39;s been raining alot.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I was out at Polihale a week ago - the road has been worked on extensively and is very easy to drive -- however if you don%26#39;t have 4WD be very cautious in the areas where the sand blows across the road - we ended up by pulling out a visitor who got stuck in that area (a notorious one!).

Maha%26#39;ulepu - it is always very well taken care of out as far as CJM Stables - past that it does get more rutted, but it is still driveable.

We haven%26#39;t had enough rain to rut out the roads badly.

On the road to Polihale, is it on the road itself where people get stuck sometimes, or is it on the beach or in the dunes? I%26#39;ve never driven the road before but would love to visit when I%26#39;m there in late August. I will be renting a compact, so I know I%26#39;ll want to take it slow.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

The place where we see the most visitors stuck out at Polihale is on the road to the ';right of the monkeypod tree'; which is a natural intersection - if you go right you end up at the far end of the beach just before Na Pali cliffs. In sections on this road the sand blows across, creating little ';traps'; of deep sand that cars can%26#39;t get through.

Your best bet is to park in one of the many areas that others are parked and walk to the beach.
