B&B Recommendations on the Big Island, Hawaii

Thank you all for the responses to my previous question.

We have decided to visit the BI only since 6 days is the max we can do. I now need recommendations on B%26amp;B%26#39;s both on the the East/West sides of the island. Our budget is approx $150 per night.

I noticed that there are a lot of B%26amp;B%26#39;s on the island, but some recommended ones would help.

Thanks!

Asmita

Are you interested only in East and West?

There are nice B%26amp;B%26#39;s on the north end of the island, in Kohala Ranch, Waimea, and Honoka`a.

$150 a night is on the bottom end for a nice B%26amp;B, even on the Hilo side. Take a look at the choices, and be aware that the difference of $20 a night may make all the difference between a class act and a funky place (funky not being used in the good sense, but in the sense of the structure and the decor).

Sorry, we can%26#39;t remember everyone from topic to topic, so could you please post what your taste is like and who is in your party if you want recommendations? What%26#39;s perfect for one person is not the right place for someone else.

for that price or less you can get a nice full service hotel in Kona or Hilo.......Why would you want to thus stay in some strangers home ?

Note my post about the Luana Inn earlier today. It is a little more than $150 but talk to Erin or Ken about your needs.

Aloha

Thank you all for the helpful information.

Hawaiidan,

What hotels do you recommend on the Kona side of the island? We are open to suggestions since we have never stayed at a B %26amp; B before.

We plan to stay 3 nights on the West side and 3 nights on the east side of the island so that we can get as much sight seeing in as we can. If there are nicer places to stay on the North side, we would be open that. We%26#39;re flying in to Kona.

Thanks!

I think a B%26amp;B on the Hilo or Volcano side is a good choice. Volcano is cooler and more ';woodsy';a and Hilo is sea level and an old sugar cane town.

First, go to the B%26amp;B%26#39;s listed in the Hilo and Volcano forums, and make a list of which ones fit your budget and sound appealing from the reviews, and then post your choices. I%26#39;m pretty sure the one or two I would say offhand are more than 150, and I don%26#39;t have time to comb through the lists. YOU need to do that, but if you go to the specific forums you%26#39;ll see the list is much shorter than if you look at Accommodations for the whole island.

For a hotel on the west side, you need to decide whether you want coffee country, Kailua-Kona where snorkel trips depart, or Kohala where the beaches are great. $150 will not get you much in Kohala, but I do think ';Makai Hale'; in Kohala Ranch is a lovely B%26amp;B, actually only one unit and your hosts leave you all to yourselves, with a jacuzzi and insane ocean view and stars.

That would be a good base for the Kohala beaches and North Kohala.

My advice to you is not to try to see the whole Big Island in six days. It is too big to do so and the roads are after all two lane highways, with trucking, not cruises in the country.

Would you want to go on vacation and spend all your time driving up and down Highway One, or would you prefer to spend some time doing things? If you go for sightseeing all over the island, it will be a drive trip with stops.

suggest under 150.....

Royal Kona.... 140

Outrigger......150

Kona Tiki......65

I have never seen a B%26amp;B that for the price was worth half the price of a mid class hotel or condo.

I consider it a total ';fad'; with no merit here.

You can get a doll house with an angel....or a hovel run by a psycho... who thought Charles Manson was cool........I cant figure for the life of me how people got into this....... and pay more to stay in a remote pig farm than in a resort suite ?

What is your motovation/thinking? You will not save a dime in A B%26amp;B

On the east side, a B%26amp;B can be much nicer than a hotel.

Vacation rentals on the east side can be lovely, but you have less chance of meeting the minimum stay requirements and you%26#39;ll incur a cleaning fee, most likely.
