air quality and vog around keaau and pahoa

My girlfriend and I are thinking about staying in this area in about a week and a half. I was wondering how the air quality and vog is around keaau and pahoa with the recent eruptions. Thank you and any ideas on good B%26amp;B%26#39;s to stay in the area?

Since the trade winds blow from East to West both Keaau and Pahoa are OK. Pahala and Wood Valley are the worst.

It said in the newspaper that we have been averaging 9000 people a day since Jan 1 who are coming in to see the lava! You can see some updated info on the lava viewing area at:

and http://www.lavainfo.us/

The only place to be really concerned about VOG is in the Volcanoes National Park and maybe very nearby, but if the levels are high around the visitor center and crater, they will temporarily close the park until the normal winds come back and blow it to Kau and S Kona and out to sea.

I was there today..... after Mt View (Just out of Hilo to well after Ocean view )the air was filled with thich vile sulphur low clouds and very bad conditions... and visability many times below 1/2 mile.

Even in a closed car...with closed vent , we were all feeling discomfort

It was very very nasty.....and from Kona to Waikoloa, to Waimea to Waipio the situation was very bad.....I have never seen it that bad....

steer clear till they give an all clear
