Hello,
My husband and I are looking for a nice place to stay in Kauai in October.
I found the following on vrbo.com, if you have stayed there we would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the property. The property in Kalaheo can be found at: http://www.vrbo.com/65191.
What is the best area of the island to stay at? We like to hike, any must hike trails?
As it is our first trip to Kauai, any other suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks.

I thought that the best place to stay was near a beach with a view of the ocean (we just came back last week and spent 4 days at the north shore - Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville, and 4 at the south shore, Kuhio Shores in Poipu).
I think the place you are looking at is more than a few minutes to Poipu (as indicated on their site) where the nice south shore beaches are. (easy to check the distance on Mapquest). There are nice views of the surrounding landscape, but if you are coming from an inland location, one of the highlights on Kauai will be views of the ocean.
A couple of other thoughts on the condo you are looking at....are you OK with the spiral staircase, and is there a/c? Lofts can get a little warm, but if there is a/c or good ventilation, it will probably be OK.
We enjoyed hikes at Waimea Canyon and on the Kalalau Trail on the north shore, from Ke%26#39;e beach to Hanakapakiai Beach.
I would suggest reading the threads asking ';north shore vs. south shore?'; before making a decision. (The north shore was our favorite.)
Good luck with your plans .... it%26#39;s a wonderful destination!

We stayed at a condo in the town of Waimea (south shore) in late February....great weather (no rain at all) but it was very close to Waimea Canyon and Kokee Park (maybe 15 minute drive)....we hiked on many of the trails during our week there...
We stayed at: http://www.kauaioceancondo.com/
It was nice and clean, two bedroom, 1 bath, small condo building with only 10 units, quiet location, right on the beach, with a small pool.....short walk to grocery store, steak house, pizza, shaved ice, fishing pier....
Nearest swimming beach is Salt Pond (15 minute drive)
Already making plans to return there next year !!...
