Kona Seaside Hotel Report

Hi All,

We took a chance and stayed at the Kona Seaside to save money for the rest of our trip. Our room was the cleanest room I have ever been in and I travel alot. We were in the ';Tower'; building and security was great. Pillows and mattress were brand-new and great. If you want a lovely looking room this is not for you. Everything was 1970%26#39;s, green/blue shag and faded bed spread But so clean!

Hotel people super friendly. They suggested a rental car company that was 1/3 cheaper than any I was able to find. After 5 days we had to moved to the Sheraton Resort and Spa because business required me to. Can not say the room was anywhere near as clean and air conditioning was sub standard.

If you want to spend money on having fun not the hotel room try Kona Seaside. Max

Kona Seaside Hotel Report

Thanks, Max!

Always good to have a current report on budget accommodations. Clean is good! (Never heard the King Kam or Uncle Billy%26#39;s praised for that quality.)

Did you post a formal review? More people will see it there.

Kona Seaside Hotel Report

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Seaside several times in the past, and have always found the tower rooms to be just as you stated. It looks like it hasn%26#39;t been remodeled since the 1970%26#39;s, but it%26#39;s super clean and everything is still in working order.

For ambience, it%26#39;s probably only a 1 star hotel. But as the original poster stated, if you only looking for a clean room to sleep in, the Seaside is an excellent choice.

Just make sure you understand that there is a HUGE difference between the ';tower'; rooms and the rooms in the outer building!

Hi,

Yes I went to the hotel section and reported how clean it was and how happy we were with our room. There were so many reports of the staff being not as friendly as people would like ,that I was happy to tell how wonderful the people are now.

We also flew to Honolulu and used ';Discount Hotels Hawaii'; and also found a beautiful hotel at a price that we were amazed. It was a wonderful trip that we hope to make again. Max

At uncle Billies... he insists on a strict rule... no fires or cooking in the room and that the cockroaches bathe once a week....

The King Kam...

has mongooses lving in the lobby...and is currently undergoing a total remodel...

Fro clean discount look at Kona Tiki.... not fancy but over the water... $79 a night

Dan, they stopped the renovations at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel. There are various rumors flying around as to why, but I heard it from a reliable source that they want to ';brand'; the hotel and will not continue with the renovation until they sign a contract with one of the brands.

john...

That makes total sence as the King Kam sits in an outstanding spot... one of the best. and has a beach.

Heck Paul Allen moved in next door... that aint too shabby. The potential is astounding. One problem I heard was that the hotel had the land on whch the hotel...however the land aroung it belonged to someone else.... very complex

I remember staying at the Kam in 1976 or was it 78?

and it was ';the place to stay'; in kona....

I am willing to bet the King Kam land is owned by the Bishop Trust as is Kona Village and Sheraton Keauhou and maybe 20% of the Island.

Bill

Not a bad bet, bill, but I just checked and it isn%26#39;t. It%26#39;s not leasehold and is owned by:

HKK INC HKK MANAGEMENT INC 2490 KALAKAUA AVENUE HONOLULU

IWF KKH LLC 1933 CLIFF DRIVE STE 1 SANTA BARBARA

Last sold in 1991 for approx 60 million

Now billing itself as Kona Beach Hotel and touting its lovely rooms and suites.

For a wild and outrageous (and no doubt exaggerated) account of life at the King Kam in the late 80%26#39;s, read Hunter S. Thompson%26#39;s ';The Curse of Lono.'; (if you can find a copy)

This is where he moved after a month or so at the oceanfront private home rental from hell on Ali%26#39;i Drive.

Wonderful comic novel about Kailua-Kona, no idea why it%26#39;s out of print.

Kamaa, I was basising my opinion on HawaiianDan%26#39;s statement that it was a leasehold i.e. owned by someone else. All I know is, if it%26#39;s a leasehold, it%26#39;s probably own by the Trust. But good work on checking the title.
