I am planning my 1st trip to Oahu. We are staying at the Royal Grove and it seems there is a company called Hawaiian Ocean that rents unbrellas and the sort. Looks like it is located near the area of beach where we will spend most of our time (btwn Duke Kamehameha statue and police station). Do any of the locals or long-time visitors know about how much it costs to rent this equipment? Budget is an issue and I want to plan if it is going to cost an arm and leg. Thanks.
Beach gear rental on WaikikiIf it is the company with stands on the beach, then they are quite expensive. You are better off going to Snorkel Bob which is on Kapahulu. Also, umbrellas and chairs are cheap at Walmart. You might find that purchasing is more economical than renting from the beach stand for the week.
Beach gear rental on WaikikiIf you don%26#39;t have a car you can buy them for $10-15 at Longs Drug Store and possibly an ABC store (sometimes pricey).
If you ARE renting a car you might want to go to Snorkel Bob%26#39;s. Last time I was there I stayed near the Royal Hawaiian to give you an idea of location and it was a 5 min drive away - super close.
Last week my friend mailed me some of the current Oahu Golds to see what coupons there are and Snorkel Bob%26#39;s currently has a special - 2 beach chairs, 1 umbrella, 1 cooler %26amp; 2 of his novels for $30.00 (1 week). I%26#39;ve hear you have to ask for this special or else they might quote you something like $25 a day. In the fine print it said single beach chairs available for $5 a week. Check the touristy coupon/guide books at the airport when you land!
If you plan to stop at Costco or Walmart you could also get a good deal there. I%26#39;ve done that in the past and bought a chair for $10 and just donated it - usually to other guests I%26#39;ve seen and just offered it up to or even the hotel staff. Last time I gave them to the hotel valet guy! I forgot it was in the trunk when we were loading up our luggage to leave! He%26#39;d been awesome all week and was so thrilled because he%26#39;s got 3 kids who seem to think beach chairs are forts %26amp; trampolines (LOL!) - bound to come in handy on those family beach days!! :-)
Thanks for the help. We will have a car so I can pick something up at Walmart. I had planned to get some inexpensive beach towels so we don%26#39;t have to pack them also.
Agreeing with above, the couple places I looked at renting stuff right down on the beach were pretty expensive. Royal Grove%26#39;s a great hotel btw. I just buy a straw matt at the ABC Store ($2.99) and use a sarong on top of that. Also if you like to sit in the shade, at that end of the beach there%26#39;s an area with lots of trees %26amp; grass in behind the sand.
we were just there and stopped at WalMart the first day and bought beach chairs there for $10, got our moneys worth. We spent our last ngiht at the Royal Grove so left our chairs there. they had a collectons of some other stuff guests could borrow also. One thing though, just in case, they didn%26#39;t have a hair dryer in room. i didn%26#39;t have mine with me cuz was one in first condo stayed in. Just a heads up. otherwise Royal grove was GREAT!
