snorkel excursion with children

Does anyone have any recommendations for snorkel excursions for kids age 6 %26amp; 8?

I%26#39;m a bit concerned about seasickness with a longer boat ride, and would prefer to depart from South Maui.

As far as Lanai goes, the channel is usually rough, right?

I hope it%26#39;s not too bad...we are going on the Lanai Snorkel on Paragon with our 7 and 11 year olds....They didn%26#39;t say it was a problem with kids...

We went to Lanai a couple of years ago. It was rough. I%26#39;d say half the boat got sick. Maybe rough swell aren%26#39;t as common as I picture?

We did a kayak/snorkel combo trip. The adults paddled to our snorkel spots and then we could keep on our lifejackets from the kayaking or take them off. We got to see a fair amount of fish and many turtles and we launched in Makena. Track down my trip review and I have all the details of our trip. Our six year old had a great time.

we took our ten year old daughter on the Four Winds II snorkel trip to molikini (sp) . The boat ride was smooth and the snorkeling spot was perfect. Captain jack and the crew took great care of us. The four Winds has a glass bottom viewing area for the kids . there are also floating ';boats';for the kids to sit or lay on with a clear viewing area for when they get too cold in the water. They can float on it if they were scared and still see plenty of fish. the boat had a slide for them to enter the water which they thought was great fun. they served hot dogs, chicken, and hamburgers, chips and cookies. I really recommend them for i think the adults and kids alike enjoyed the whole experience. on the way home they fish and also take you by turtle town to watch for turtles. a perfect day! (in case of seasickness in kids, bring ginger cookies , they do help some...)have fun!

Thanks guys. Both of those trips sound good.

Molokini probably wouldn%26#39;t be my first choice, as I%26#39;ve been there twice. But my wife loves it there, and the views of Haleakala from there. The slide would be a bonus for the kids too.

I kind of like the idea of the kayak tour. How much longer are they going to be able to launch from Makena Landing? Of has that been resolved yet?

I believe the commercial operations at Makena Landing were ended on the 1st of September, 2008. You might want to double check that though!!

I was thinking that they were going to end either Aug 1 or Sept 1. I guess I might have to call them to find out for sure.

Going to Lanai is usually not a seasickness issue. It%26#39;s the coming back that can be dicey depending on water conditions. Did it once with no problem and another time I had a really hard time keeping it down. A lot of people on the boat weren%26#39;t as lucky. I don%26#39;t think the length of the ride has anything to do with it. If your little ones are prone to seasickness then look at shore or Molokini. If you%26#39;re going to do the Lanai make sure they eat good stuff and not junk to try to protect against it.

Yeah, we%26#39;ll be snorkeling from shore too.
