wedding gift

Aloha all!

My youngest sister is getting married this month in Kapaa. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a wedding gift that is artisan and local. Something really cool that will remind her of her experience in Kauai.Perhaps a wood carving or a piece with shells.

Any ideas or specific artists??

Thanks to all who respond.

Are you going to be there? And what%26#39;s your budget...i personally LOVE the hand made wooden vases and bowls. I%26#39;m looking at my Norfolk pine vase that I bought on the Big Island, it%26#39;s gorgeous, signed and cost me about $120 (my computer desk is layer with lovely things from my travels). Just an idea. You can also find niihau shell earrings in the $100 range and they are very special. Good luck.

You may find something on this website that suits you, plus you can contact the person directly.

Evolve Love in Hanalei has some interesting things including some lovely block prints by Avi Kiriati, and artist we particularly like.

Depending on your budget you might want to look at Ni`ihau shell leis out at Spouting Horn. At least one of the vendors still sells them. There are also pieces by Denny Wong.

Na Hoku sells lovely gold jewelry, all island-inspired. http://nahoku.com/NaHoku/Home

There%26#39;s a Maui Divers shop inside Hilo Hattie in Lihue.

If you want a little ';nothing'; gift, too, how about a pretty pareo. They%26#39;re available all over the place and make a great swimsuit coverup.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I%26#39;d suggest looking at the Kaua%26#39;i Museum gift shop in Lihu`e - they have lots of lovely carved umekes (bowls) and other Kaua`i-made items.

Pupu %26#39;O Ni%26#39;ihau (Ni%26#39;ihau shell leis) are also a great gift - I%26#39;d suggest seeing Ehu Kanahele at ';Ehu Kai'; at Port Allen - her ohana from Ni%26#39;ihau have been making these for generations - they are truly a heirloom and unique to Kaua`i.

Ray Nitta also is a local woodcarver from the West Side who does fantastic work - here is a link with his info: http://www.hawaiilink.net/~ksa/Nitta.html

Banana Patch Studios has some lovely pieces by local artists and what about the Koa wood place on Kuhio Highway before you get to Macy%26#39;s? Not sure of the name. Koa salad bowls are very expensive and last forever. If you are not attending the wedding I bet they could ship to you.

This website has many vendors with a variety of Kauai-made items. www.kauaimade.net/region.aspx?region=central

From jewelry to woodworker wares...

Frames are always a lovely gift. If you get married in Hawaii a large koa frame would be wonderful. While a frame may not sound personal, you can%26#39;t buy a koa frame anywhere else!
