Suggestions for last day?

I think I%26#39;ve got our itinerary just about right, but the one day I%26#39;m still up in the air about is the day we leave. We are leaving on a red-eye at 9 p.m. I like to check in fairly early at the airport and not have to stress out about being late, but we will want to eat before we leave as well. Is there anyplace decent in the airport to get a meal %26amp; a couple drinks? If not, where would you suggest that is convenient?

Also, where would be the best place to gas up the rental near the airport (not Costco..we%26#39;re not members).

And, last question, anyone have any unique ideas how to kill the afternoon besides last minute souvenir shopping? We will have our luggage in the car so that needs to be considered.

Mahalo!

your hotel or condo staff will store the luggage till the evening. pick it up at 6:30 pm and check it in then by 7:30

Nothing in the Airport... when you arrive check it out. Any gas station will be within 3 to 5 cents of each other... forget driving around to save $2.00

Lots to do in Kona...and places to eat... a 30 min drive south.. Or Waikoloa Beach 30 min north.

yeah, the airport restaurant is awful. Not sure about the drinks because I%26#39;ve only been there earlier ... I know they have beer and wine.

Pretty sure there%26#39;s gas at the Matsuyama%26#39;s market south of the airport. If not, the Chevron at Kealakehe.

If coming from Waikoloa, the Shell at Waikoloa Beach Resort.

I%26#39;d eat in Kona.

Just a thought -- by the time you%26#39;re on your last day, you%26#39;ll already have discovered some favorite spots to eat and go, you%26#39;ll have been up and down the road, you%26#39;ll have noted the gas stations, etc..

This is not something you need to plan before you go.

While it%26#39;s great to know the best places to see and eat before you go for the first time, there%26#39;s fun to be had finding your own favorites and going back to things you enjoyed.

My first trip to the Big Island, we found one place to have lunch in Kona and went there every time. That may sound weird, but we enjoyed the feeling of being ';regulars.';

I%26#39;m not expressing this right. What I mean is that today you don%26#39;t know the area at all. On the last day of your trip you will, and I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have no problem thinking of stuff to do. More than likely you%26#39;ll not have been able to do all the stuff already on your itinerary and you can play catch up.

I would go with leaving the luggage if you are able. If you%26#39;re staying at a condo, may not work, you should enquire about that in advance.

I believe you could stop at the airport early, check in your bags (park in short term parking), and then head up to Waikoloa Beach area. Have some dinner up there and return, about 30 minutes from the airport.

If you like sushi -- I like Sansei%26#39;s at Queens Marketplace. They have an early bird discount, and you should make reservations and be there by 5:30 as it%26#39;s very popular.

There are several choices for dinner in that area, from Food Court to fancy.
