Royal lahaina vs Maui prince vs ???

Aloha,

We am considering these hotels for our honeymoon trip. We are from Finland and this is our first time in Hawaii. Any other suggestion for accomdation? Budget is around 2000$ for 9 nights. We arrive 11/11/08. We are going to rent a car probably. What are total costs for a day including taxes and insurances?(budget car thought jeep would be nice) How much is taxi drive from airport to Royal lahaina or Prince? Thanks:)

You should rent a car at the airport. You do need a car on Maui. Taxis are not practical for that distance, but there are commercial shuttles.

If I recall, Maui Prince is way down on the south end of Maui and may be a little isolated for you.

If it%26#39;s down to those two places, bear in mind that the RL is close to the Lahaina and Kaanapali, so it will be busier, and more crowded than the Maui Prince. Whether or not that is a good thing is a personal matter for you.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the RL and liked it. Good location IMO. The Prince is on one of the best snorkeling beaches in Maui, but I don%26#39;t know anything about it%26#39;s rooms.

Read the hotel reviews--Bips just did a very positive one and so have others. I love Maui Prince because it is on a lovely beach and in a quieter area of Maui. But if you want to go to Lahaina often you will drive a lot. You also will have to drive to dinner, etc. in other locations.

You should go onto a few car rental web sites to see the prices...try a few to see how they compare. You will probably need to buy insurance and if you try it from FInland the menus should come up with those prices and fees. If you have car insurance or credit cards that cover rental cars, check them out carefully to see if they are valid in the USA. It is easy to get a small scape or dent in a rental car and that can be very costly without coverage, as well as take time when you return the car. I purchase the Loss Damage Waiver for just that reason because I do NOT want to file a claim against my own car insurance and lose the $700/year discount they give me for not having a claim in over 5 years. (In my area, coverage for 2 very modest cars is over $1000/year with the discount.)

Oh my Pek! I think it gets down to that old question: West Maui vs South Maui. Have you considered that issue?

If it was my honeymoon (and God knows I%26#39;ve had 6 of them!), I%26#39;d suggest that you stay at the Prince and do read the review by Bips that was pointed out please.

And rest assured I%26#39;ll be working and won%26#39;t distract from time there in South Maui...unfortunely!

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina in june and loved it. Ask for the tower rooms on the top floor. the view and room were beautiful. the hotel staff was so friendly and made us feel so welcome. They have a free shuttle to the mall and some of the nearby places. the luau was also good and within walking distance which is a plus. No worries about driving back late. I cant wait to go back and was very happy with our choice. the beach was the best part, never crowded and the snorkeling was great just a short walk up the beach or around the black rock area. remember to ask for the get one nite free special if they still honor it. have fun....

Aloha!

I would choose the Royal Lahaina.

The beach there is great for swimming and snorkeling.

Plus, what sets it apart from the Maui Prince is that all the rooms in the main tower(Lahaina Kai)have been renovated, and you are closer to shops and restaurants. They have some great free night and upgrade offers going right now, too.

I would choose the Maui Prince. It is in a great location, especially for honeymooners. The beach is fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. We spent quite a bit of time on the beach there and had a great time admiring the sea turtles at Turtle Rock. There is a catamaran that sails directly from the beach in front of the hotel. The company is Kai Kananani and we used them when we recently visited.

Why not split? A few days in Kaanapali and then another few at the Prince? Would provide opportunity for simplification on a couple of issues. Both areas are that different.
