We are planning a trip to Maui Summer %26#39;09. One of our top criteria is an awesome pool. Travelling will be me, DH, 2 sons ages 7 and 9. I know Grand Wailea is #1 but frankly too pricey. We usually get 2 rooms and this place is way over the top. We stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai and wished it were on Maui. So anyway, what hotels do you LOVE the pools??
Thanks for any input
Top 5 Swimming Pools in MauiI don%26#39;t know that I can name five pools since I have only been to a few but I think the Sheraton at Black Rock has a beautiful pool. We added on a couple days to our stay this year and are moving over there for them just because of the pool as we have kids 7 and 11. Go on to their website here to look at them. They are even better in person! I also like the pools at the Westin Ka%26#39;anapali (not the OV). They are multi leveled and pretty. And yes, of course, the Grand Wailea is great but you pay for it!
Good Luck!
Top 5 Swimming Pools in MauiYou will get alot of people questioning why you are going to maui to sit at a pool when the beach is so great. Personally, I get it becuase I have young kids as well and know you can not spend all day on the beach.
If you are looking for waterslides besides grand wailea the only others I am aware of are at the Westin resort and the Westin Kaanapali ocean resorts. There are prob others I don%26#39;t know about.
The Westin Resort on Ka%26#39;anapali has good pools for kids. Problem is -- most rooms are very small. You%26#39;d have a tough time shoe-horning the gang in. There are larger rooms (or so it has been posted) - so take care to reserve one of those. Great location. Noisy.
WOKR- Westin lots of pools. one has slides/ one is a pirate ship and one is just a big pool.. not that expensive when u figure it%26#39;s a condo vs. a hotel room (Gw)
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Westin Ka%26#39;anapali resort this summer. Our kids are 8 1/2 and 13. We all loved the Grand Hyatt, partly because it never felt crowded (definitely had that aahhh... feeling of vacation). We also enjoyed the Westin - being close to Whaler%26#39;s Village, and liked the part of Ka%26#39;anapali beach that is fronting the Westin. The kids liked the pools at the Westin, but they were much more crowded than the Grand Hyatt. The first day we tried the pool after spending 4 hours on the beach, and the kids almost changed their minds to go back on the beach (they don%26#39;t like walking around looking for a chair). But, we did use the pools every day (yes, there were chairs if you looked), and the pool-side service (drinks and food) was great at the Westin. As to the rooms, we did not feel smashed in, but the room definitely was smaller at the Westin than at the Grand Hyatt: double versus queen beds, less storage space for clothes, significantly smaller bathroom area (no surprise there, since the GH bathrooms are huge). If you stay at the Westin looking for the Grand Hyatt atmosphere, etc you will not get it, but if you are looking for a fun pool, good beach and nearby shops and restaurants (at Whaler%26#39;s Village), not to mention easy access to water activities and Lahaina, the Westin is a good choice. Can%26#39;t comment on other Ka%26#39;anapali beach area resorts as we didn%26#39;t peek in at any.
WillandLuke-
FYI...there are 2 Westin properties that are being mentioned here. There is one near the Whaler Village that most of us have mentioned and then there is the Westin Ocean Villas which is what Rose is referring to (timeshare property). Just wanted to make sure you were clear on that point...
The pool at KBH because it%26#39;s shaped like a whale. All others are not shaped like a whale and are therefore inferior.
Mike, surely you jest....;)
In Wailea near the Grand, the Kea Lani has a waterslide. There is an upper pool with a swimup bar and you enter the waterslide from that pool and slide to the lower pool. My kids ages 7-10 did that waterslide 25-50 times a day for 5 days. I think though the Kea Lani is pricey at $525 per night for the cheapest room.
Also the Wailea Marriott has a pool that my kids liked. It has 2 waterslides. One is a typical waterslide but it does not end into a pool but ends as a long trough and you step out onto the concrete. It also has a short waterslide and I mean short that is steep and dumps you into an 8 foot deep pool not much wider that a jacuzzi. It is fast and fun. Lastly this pool area has what I call a water jungle gym for small kids even though my 7 %26amp; 10 year old liked it I think the jungle gym is geared for a little younger kids.
The marriott pool water temp was on the cool side but you get used to it. The kids pool also has a beach entrance with sand. I think the marriott%26#39;s cheapest room is $380 but we are doing 5 nights and they have a promotion called the Sand Dollar where the 4th night is free so I think we will average $304 per night.
I would also consider the Maui Marriott. Although it is now a timeshare property you can easily rent from owners or book directly with Marriott. They have the ';Suites'; which are converted hotel rooms with a kitchenette. The 2 bedroom has a living room with a dining area and 3 bathrooms which is nice. The ';Villas'; are just like a condo with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. The main pool is very nice with a slide and waterfall grotto area. Each ';Villa'; building (there are 2) also has a pool. This is a great property with a couple of restaurants and pool service with a pool/bar area as well. We are not owners but we rent from owners every time we go. It is nice to have the extra space (we have only stayed in the ';suites';) especially with kids.
