If you already have tickets...for a specific flight you may or may not be on it.
Starting in October flights to all Hawaiian destinations will be cut 25% by just about all lines. Nonstops will be the first to go. Expect to hub from LA or SFO or PHX. Non stops will carry much higher fares in the future.
Continental is grounding 70 planes, American 80+ and United 100.. if that gives you an idea.
Buying a package flight and hotel will be the best way to insure being on a specific flight #
If you have a ticket and dont like it, the only option is to 1. accept being re-booked bu the airline
or 2. getting a refund without penalty.. Thats it
It is also being suggested that with todays schedules and delays...allow 2 hours between flights with planes running full now, the next flight mightt be full and they cant put you on it.... so take more time
If you havent bought a ticket do so.....
flights cut to Hawaii 25%

flights cut to Hawaii 25%
Mr. H-O was on it this morning--United had changed one of our flight numbers but thanks to his call to UA we are still in our bulkhead seats and the connections work! YAY! (We bought the upgradable coach fare tix in March and upgraded to first with miles; happily all four legs of upgrades cleared quickly--sometimes we have to wait but not this year.)
Dan ... I%26#39;m assuming that this doesn%26#39;t include Hawaiian...?
Dan, you said, ';if you haven%26#39;t bought a ticket, do so....';.
I guess I%26#39;m confused. At the beginning of your post, you said even if you have bought a ticket, you may not be on the flight. Flights are being cut.
So those of us who have tickets for an upcoming trip, say to Hawaii, may have their flight cut?
Thosw who haven%26#39;t bought tickets yet, should hurry and do so? But even that isn%26#39;t a sure bet??
OR.....does the October thing have everything to do with it? I got seats in July for next Feb. Am I safe?????
Help...I guess you%26#39;ve figured it out that I%26#39;m confused!
Thanks.
If you HAVE a ticket and they cut your original flight United will put you on another flight automatically. You may or may not like that one or the connection layover or your new seat, so you need to check and renegotiate. You need to do this via phone call for best results. My husband did tthat yesterday (to get our 1A, 1B seats back).
If seats are scarce on the remaining flights, your price will go UP and availability go DOWN the longer you wait. Supply, demand, yield management.
Clear %26#39;nuff?
Pattie, NWA has not cut or announced any cuts that I am aware of. As was said, if you have a confirmed ticket they will do everything they can to get you there, what you need to do is check that the new schdules work for you and that they didn%26#39;t mes something up, like a connection leaving an hour before you even arrive..it can happen.
Keeping my fingers crossed for our flight in 3 weeks or so, it is a direct from MSP to HNL and it is pretty full at this time.
Prior to calling an airline for a rebooking it is critical to review all schedule option. If their flight change requires you to get to airport earlier or later or longer connection - arm yourself with info. because the alternative flight they give you may not be the best option.
E.g. I was on a EWR %26gt; LAX %26gt; LIH but after schedule change I was on EWR %26gt; ORD %26gt; LAX %26gt; LIH. Always check and change to whatever flight you desire.
Since Hawaiian has all the interislands I would not think they would be cutting back, based on their stock price they look like they will take advantage of the cut backs
I was thinking Mainland flights, Longboard. I know that the number of visitors from California is down too. Hawaiian%26#39;s business from Sacramento is very healthy ... but I don%26#39;t know about the rest of the cities.
The logic of buying a ticket now...it will be for a better rate than later and you will have more chance of a better seat/flight/date.
As flight get cut...they are used to fill other flights to insure that all are full and that will make what seats that are left very expensive .
The longer you wait the more expensive seats become.
Hence buy now for less... and get a stake in the game and lock the price.
If all the other cariers are raising their rates and flying full... then it would be bad business for Hawaiian to offer cheaper seats when they could be making more. If UA and AA flights are all full with top dollar passengers... why would Hawaiian sell its seats any less.....
What is interesting is the fact that the airlines are cutting to leisure destinations.. and the focus is on business travlers who pay top dollar for non stops and shedules. Because of the high costs of going to europe.. many european flights are only 40 50% full......
