Day trip to Oahu

Is it feasible to do a day trip from Kauai to Oahu to see Pearl Harbor and a few other attractions? Would we need to rent a car on Oahu or are there shuttles or something similar that go out to Pearl Harbor from the airport? How far is the airport from Pearl Harbor?

Day trip to Oahu

The Bus runs all over Oahu. We have taken The Bus from Waikiki to Pearl Harbor a couple of times and the bus we were on also stopped at the airport. I don%26#39;t remember the bus numbers, or times, but it is possible to go that route.

Pearl Harbor is very close to the airport---about 3 miles away---so taking a taxi would be a good option, too.

Day trip to Oahu

Many flight go through Honolulu and if your flight does, plan to stay a day or two before heading to Kauai. Or on the way out. That is the most economical. Flights between the islands are not cheap any longer.

Rent a car.

After Pearl Harbor, you can tour the island some and/or got to Waikiki.

Even in one day, you can see much of the island.

If you are flying through Honolulu, and most do, stay a day there. No reason to pay to fly back if you do not have to.

In Honolulu, rent a car. Then you can see Pearl half the day and see something else the rest of the day.

Have Fun

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

The days of island hopping when it was almost as easy as using a bus are over I%26#39;m afraid - it is so much more involved these days going to O%26#39;ahu for a day trip - between parking at the airport here, flying, renting a car there - and the extra time needed at the airport - personally I wouldn%26#39;t do a day trip unless you have no other choice - while it certainly is possible to do it - it is expensive and very time consuming. Much easier to plan on an overnight on your trip over than doing it on a one day over and back basis from here.

While there is excellent bus service on O%26#39;ahu to Pearl Harbor - it is still that - bus service - and I would give yourself lots of extra time to get to and from the airport from Pearl Harbor.

Don%26#39;t mean to be discouraging, but I%26#39;ve pretty much given up on day trips myself to O%26#39;ahu - just too expensive #1, and not enough time to make it worthwhile IMO.

We delayed our arrival to Kauai by a day to see Pearl Harbor. But there really are no shuttles. After much research, we found that renting a car was a better and cheaper alternative. We only spent one night on Oahu and saw everything we needed to see.

Koloagirl is correct about the island hopping. It%26#39;s much more expensive. We were going to pop over to Maui after our 10 days on Kauai and it doubled our airfare (from $464/person to $1092/person). We decided to just stay put.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Since we aren%26#39;t flying through Honolulu I think we will pass on doing this for now. Maybe another time.

We had our trip to Kauai Aug 14-20. On the 18th we did a day trip to Oahu through Alohavacationshawaii.com. They booked us with Polynesian Adventure tours, and we had a wonderful time! Our tour guide Garfield was Excellent! We saw Pearl Harbor, Punchbowl Cemetery,a tour of important sites in Honolulu, Pali Lookout, Lunch in Waikiki (After spending 4 days in the paradise that is Kauai, Waikiki was FAR to touristy and crowded for us, we were happy we were only there and hour and a half) And then last we went to tour the USS Missouri. Everyone that booked through Polynesian Adventures were dropped off at different shopping locations because their flights didn%26#39;t leave till Much later (8-9 pm) we finished our tour around 5. But since we booked through a different company, we had an earlier flight and were able to go straight to the airport. We were exhausted so very happy to be going back right away. It was $285 per person (round trip flight and tour), and I think was well worth it :)

Hey, Beautiful BC! Aloha from Saskatchewan!

We did a day trip through Polynesian Tours also, two adults and two 17 yr olds that didn%26#39;t want to live through us figuring out traffic and roads on Oahu. The trip was excellent in all ways. Having a knowledgeable and really witty guide (Nappy) was an absolute highlight! His info at the Missouri (where you are otherwise on your own as far as I know) was a great end to a pretty great day! There was plenty of sightseeing, too, and as mentioned, lunch doown in Waikiki.

And it is true - a day trip to Oahu, regardless of the beauty and history there, really makes you love Kauai even more. Even the kids , who had a blast, loved the Arizona, etc, and are avid shoppers, said they were so glad we were going ';home'; to Kauai that night! Cool!

The cost is definitely a factor, but the way the day just flows with Polynesian is significant, too. One thing, at the Arizona DO get the tapes/headsets to listen to. We were advised not to and I think we missed out big time. That was our thought anyway.

Good luck with your plans!

Thanks for your input. I will look into this again.
