grand hyatt questions

We will be staying at the Grand Hyatt in November. I would appreciate finding out if it is possible to get to nearby beaches and restaurants without a car.

Can we book reasonable tours/activities through the hotel such as ziplining or should we do these on our own?

Can you please recommend restaurants that are close to Grand Hyatt? How does one get to these restaurants without a car; are taxis easy to get from this location?

Thanks

I guess it depends how far you are willing to walk. Most of the good restaurants and other beaches are quite a hike from the Hyatt. You really need to rent a car. Taxis are very expensive and there are not a lot of them. You won%26#39;t find a cab stand at the Hyatt. Driving on Kauai is very easy. It is primarily two lane roads. You will miss out on the incredible beauty of many parts of Kauai unless you get a car.

As far as restaurants in the Poipu area that are good, Plantation Gardens at Kiahuna Plantation, the Beachhouse, Roy%26#39;s get good reviews (usually). Brennecke%26#39;s is a good place for lunch with an ocean view.

We always booked our own activities, so I can%26#39;t really comment on the concierge desk at the Hyatt.

If this is your first time visiting Kauai, you might want to use the hotel concierge for booking tours and activities. You can also check online and make all of your arrangements directly with a lot of the companies that offer these.

Beaches and restaurants nearby will be difficult to reach without a rental car. Unless your goal is to simply soak up the resort atmosphere at the Hyatt not leave the resort, you really do need a car. As the previous poster says, you will miss so much without a rental car and the roads on the island are very easy to drive on.

Aloha from Kaua`i!

I live here in the Po`ipu area and work as narrator at the Grand Hyatt for the torchlighting ceremony - so I%26#39;ll do my best to answer you!

While it is possible to walk to Brennecke%26#39;s and Po`ipu Beach Park from the Hyatt - it is a pretty decent hike if you are carrying lots of stuff - it is 5 minutes by car though, so that usually is the best option.

If you do decide to walk - just leave the Hyatt thru the main gates and turn left (you%26#39;ll be on Po`ipu Rd.) - after about 2 blocks you%26#39;ll see Po`ipu Kai and if you go into their parking lot, you will have a rock-bordered pathway that goes thru their property and deposits you on Pe`e Road - just across from Brennecke%26#39;s Beach - this is probably about a 10-15 minute walk.

The concierge at the Hyatt is excellent - they can very easily arrange any type of activities for you such as tours or ziplining - they are right in the main lobby of the Hyatt and there are usually about 3-4 concierge on duty at any one time.

Restaurants that are closeby the Hyatt: Po`ipu Beach Broiler, Casa di Amici, Brennecke%26#39;s Beach Broiler,

Plantation Gardens, Keoki%26#39;s Paradise, Roy%26#39;s, The Beach House - all of these are very close to the Hyatt and are in the immediate Po%26#39;ipu Beach area. Po`ipu Beach Broiler is located at Po`ipu Kai and is walkable - as would be Brennecke%26#39;s Beach Broiler and Casa di Amici if you use the pathway I mentioned above.

You can get a taxi at the Hyatt - just call the bell desk and ask for one - they are always closeby. South Shore Taxi is a great local one.

Janet

Would not want to be in Kauai without a car.. . not even for a day. The Hyatt is self contained, however as the others have mentioned plenty of restaurants nearby worth a visit.

Taxis exist.. but are not even near the optimal mode of transportation on the island.

Have a great stay.

By the time you pay for all of the taxis, you would excede the amount for a rental car. You can indeed walk to most of the places in Poipu (hubby does it all of the time). But the Beach House Restaurant may be too far from the Hyatt for a dinner walk. And there are not a lot of sidewalks available, yet. You will also miss out on a lot of the site seeing that can be done without going through a formal tour. Rent an inexpensice compact. It will be worth it!
