Will be in Kona at the end of October. One of our travelers will be celebrating a birthday. Is there a local bakery to purchase a dessert from? I am not really into going to Costco or Safeway. Have read about a bakery in the Coconut Grove MarketPlace, how are their cakes/pies?
Thanks,
m
Local Bakery
Cake Rack in the Old Industrial area is your place to go to. It%26#39;s across of Kaiwi Square, just off the highway.
Local Bakery
If you are up for a drive Coffees N Epicurea (808) 328-0322 83-5315 Mamalahoa Hwy Captain Cook has the best cakes ever..Very European. My grandfather was a baker (Austrian) so I am spoiled. I like the Chantilly cake best.. you can walk in to buy but if you call ahead they do a nice job decorating to order.
Thank you both. I will contact both locations. TT, is there a cake at the location you recommend?
Cafe Epicurious has been out of business for about a year now. You can buy ready-made cakes as well as order a cake at the Cake Rack. Another option would be Chris Bakery in Captain Cook.
Well I bought my birthday cake there 4 weeks ago and it sure was not stale.. and I just spoke with them on the phone and they said they have been and will continue to stay open with no intention of closing
808 328 0322
Just to be clear... by still open and there I mean Coffees N Epicurea (808) 328 0322.. I do not want them to loose business by anyone thinking they are closed when they are not ;o)
I wonder if we are talking about the same place. Cafe Epicurious on the mauka side of the highway, across of the former Philly-Sophical Deli location in Captain Cook is Hula Beans Cafe now. Is this a new place with a similar name?
TT we must be talking different places. This is makai side across from the fish market (I forget the name) about 1/4 mile south of the school... If you have not been there you must give it a try.. I was dubious when everyone told me about the quality of the bakery (my grandfather spoiled me) but I was impressed.
I know exactly where that place is, just before the Middle Keei Road! I think I got confused and I was thinking of the Nasturtium Cafe. I certainly will try it, maybe I get get a good strudel there! :)
Oh I wish for a strudel like Grandpa made...if you find one on the island please share... more of a French influence bakery... let us know what you think.
