LOST - Self Drive

Hi All,

We will be on Oahu in early October and, being huge LOST fans, thought we would take one of the tours available. Since we have two children with us (8 %26amp; 10), we really didn%26#39;t want to take a full day tour, which seems to be the only option if you want to get near Papa%26#39;iloa Beach where the survivors%26#39; camp is located.

So, I thought...Why not hire a car and drive to a few selected locations ?

I checked out the LostVirtualTour site and have a few extra questions I hope someone may be able to answer.

Have any of you driven to this location yourselves ? How close to the set can you get ? Is access via Haleiwa Beach Park ? Is the walk far ?

I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ve forgotten to ask something, but this will do for a start. Thanks for your help on this.

Glenn.

We did the Kos Hummer Tour which was 5 hours long, and very good, though if your children are not great fans they may get a bit bored, and it works out pretty expensive for four.

Using the LostVirtualTour as a guide we drove up to the north shore and saw the crash beach, the tailies beach and New Otherton. With no evidence of filming you need to rely on your memory on the beaches, but New Otherton is eaxctly as it looks on Lost.

As for Papa%26#39;iloa Beach you just park near the beach and walk up. When we were there at the start of August the whole survivors%26#39; camp was there, shielded just by a plastic fence, so you can get to within six feet of Sawyer%26#39;s tent. What I think must be Eko%26#39;s church is also there.

It%26#39;s also a good place for seeing turtles. There was a sign warning people not to harass them if they were basking, and although we didn%26#39;t see any on land, we saw loads swimming just off shore, including one that tried and failed to come ashore.

Most of the best other Lost sites are on the Kualoa Ranch that you can only get to with a private tour, but you can go round the temple where Jin proposed to Sun (worth a trip even if you don%26#39;t like Lost), get a good view of the pier Michael and Walt left from, and walk on the Lanai lookout, where Kelvin died. LVT advises you not to cross the wall and go onto the rocks there, but you%26#39;re a long way above the sea level and we decided it was worth the risk

I did a bit of this two years ago at the end of September. I wasn%26#39;t following a Virtual Tour, that sounds like a help. But had jotted some notes off a site that showed locations.

We couldn%26#39;t go to Police Beach because they were filming. May be the same for you. It%26#39;s only during down times like summer that you can walk up to it.

There is some public beach access to the northeast of the beach, far enough off not to be near the security area, where we took some distance shots of the coast towards Kaena point. Not through Haleiwa.

Byodin Temple should be on your list, I think.

I%26#39;m sure there are more sites, two seasons later.

We would have enjoyed seeing Kualoa Ranch, I think.

Have a great trip ... we sure did enjoy it, even though to be sure we had to use our imaginations.
