Can anyone tell me the differences between Poipu and Wailua?
We want quiet, but a nice beach condo resort, but would like to be close enough to fun stuff do do. Is one area less windy? I hate the wind!
Thanks again,
Kasey in Boise, Idaho
Poipu vs. Wailua? Which one is better for us???
For all those that like the East side, sorry but I would go for Poipu first. Kaha Lani condos are OK near Lydgate Park, but Poipu is nicer IMO. I think that area around Wailua is very windy or why would you see kite surfers around here. Poipu is alittle more ';upscale';. Wailua has older condos. Wailua Bay Villas has a few nicely redone condos but the ocean is not good for swimming.
Nice beach condo in Poipu would be Kiahuna Plantation or another popular one is Kuhio Shores. KS has a very tiny beach next to it but the snorkeling is usually good. KS sits right on the water. No pool if that makes a difference. If you are making plans to go after April also look at the North Shore.
Here%26#39;s a good website for condos and cottages for rent by owner.

Poipu vs. Wailua? Which one is better for us???
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
Po%26#39;ipu Beach area is located on the South Shore of Kaua%26#39;i - the ';sunny side'; of the island traditionally. It has a lovely swimmable beach and a great beach park with lifeguard, pavillions, showers, bathrooms and a deli across the street.
There are many condos and vacation rentals as well as hotels in the area to choose from. Many of these are within walking distance to, or right on Po%26#39;ipu Beach. This side of the island is the traditionally ';sunny side'; of the island - especially during the winter and early spring months it is generally much drier and less windy also than other parts of the island.
There is Old Koloa Town for shopping and browsing - Po%26#39;ipu Shopping Village is also in the heart of the area - many restaurants dot the area also. A beautiful, undeveloped coastline is available for beach-going and hiking as well - Maha%26#39;ulepu.
While all parts of the island experience tradewinds (it is our natural air conditioning!) the winds are usually much stronger on the windward side (East Side) of the island.
The East Side is the commercial heart of the island -it is also the most central as far as getting to the North or South - West Shores of the island. There are also many condos and vacation rentals in this area - there are really only 2 swimmable beaches in the area - Lydgate Park and (sometimes) Kalapaki Beach - Lydgate Park has all facilities and is very popular.
Just depends on what you are looking for!
Malama Pono,
Janet
Janet, and others,
Thanks so much for the help on the different areas.
I am thinking Poipu may be more what we want.
I appreciate the help!
Kasey
The east shore is so much more limited on having swimming beaches. And those that are there require a good drive in the car to get to. If you stay in Poipu you will be able to walk to one of the beaches or a very quick drive to a good selection of beaches.
Since you asked about a nice condo beach resort I interpret that to mean you want a condo resort right on the beach. In my book Kiahuna Plantation fits the bill the best for you.
