Koloiki Ridge Hike

We just got back from this long hike! (It took us 3.5 hours with a ride from the cemetary on the way back). We started at the FS Koele and walked all the way up to Cemetary Rd. first, then started at marker #7. I have to say that the Naio Gulch is worth the hike by itself. It looked just as lush as some of the photos I%26#39;ve seen of Kauai. Very beautiful (even with the VOG)! We were fortunate enough to see deer at the Koloiki Ridge too.

Aloha NatureCat,

Glad to hear that you made it back...I was considering sending out a search party! :-) See you again soon--Mike

Koloiki Ridge Hike

Glad you had a great hike, NatureCat! That is one of our favorite hikes, with a great variety of flora and fauna to see. On one of our hikes in the past we heard what sounded like a freight train headed toward us, turned around, and saw at least a dozen axis deer cross the trail at high speed. I am sure we had scared them, but their proximity and speed gave us a start too.

Mike ~ We probably took a little longer than the average hiker. We stopped to look at things along the way. Then, on the way back, we were just plain tired. Marco saw us at the cemetary on the way back and asked if we wanted a ride down. We were more than happy to accept the offer!

DrV ~ We thought a tree was falling when the deer came barreling through in front of us (that%26#39;s how loud it was). We were so quiet on the whole hike (whispering so we could hear everything). When we went to Lopa last fall, we had a similar experience as you. There must have been a dozen or more that popped out right in front of us.

Thst sounds AMAZING, NatureCat! I miss Lanai!!!
