Restaurant itinerary

Hi all --

Any suggestions and comments are welcome on the following choices I%26#39;ve tentatively made for our post-Memorial Day week trip! And I%26#39;d love votes for the ones where I haven%26#39;t made up my mind. Thanks in advance!

Dinner - Hanalei Dolphin or Hanalei Gourmet? (Not interested in Bar Acuda)

THUR. (on North Shore with travel to Poipu after sunset)

Breakfast (skip)

Lunch - Neide%26#39;s or Hanalei Gourmet? (something quick-ish)

Dinner - Barbeque Inn or Duane%26#39;s Ono Char-Burger?

Restaurant itinerary

where are ya%26#39;ll staying? I just wanted to note that we tended to drink too much at beach house (we%26#39;re from New Orleans, can%26#39;t help it). Everyone staying in the beach house area goes and has a nice sunset drink or 2 and they are strong. It really was a friendly chatty scene. A very nice dinner too

Shrimp station was delicious, and friendly! Garlic shrimp and coconut were very ono!

We were out and about so much, lunch was not usually in a restaurant. We only had 1 breakast out, I can%26#39;t remember the name... at Coconut Marketplace, kind of well known..hopefully someone will pipe in. It was a really filling breakfast. Banana Mac Pancakes were monsterous. Do not even think about full stack for 1 person.

Not on our list but to mention: Keoki Paradise: very plain and not worth the money. It was Shoney%26#39;s food with wine for $100.00

Restaurant itinerary

I don%26#39;t know what a Shoney%26#39;s is, but we love Keoki%26#39;s Paradise. This is where we go our first night on island and have a Lava Flow. It%26#39;s part of the Duke%26#39;s chain, very tropical, with delicious fish and that wonderful Hula Pie for desert.

I%26#39;d add Joe%26#39;s on the Green for breakfast.

We were on Kauai from April 2 through April 11. Our favorite dinners were:

Hukilau Lanai

Plantation Gardens

Tidepools

Favorite Breakfast was the Mac Nut Pancakes at Tip Top Cafe

Favorite lunches:

Shrimp Station

Puka Dogs

We have always been fans of TomKats Grill in Koloa, however, they were a huge disappointment this year. Food was terrible.

I forgot Puka Dog! Very many varied opinions but we loved it and had it twice.

4 of us were on Kauai last week. Hands down, everyone%26#39;s favorite place was Hukilau Lanai.

We also like the Dolphin, Lighthouse Bistro, and the fish market across the street from the Lighthouse Bistro. Although the service at the fish market reminded me of Seinfeld%26#39;s Soup Nazi.

We had mixed reviews on Bar Acuda. Some of the dishes were outstanding. Others, not so good.

We were also disappointd with Keoki Paradise, this time.

Roy%26#39;s is right next door and is a favorite.

The Hanalei Dolphin generally has excellent fresh fish, albeit pricey. The Hanalei Gourmet is a more casual, local bar type venue with good food -- their crab cakes are excellent. If you pick them for lunch, don%26#39;t count on it being quick. Sometimes service is a bit slow there. I don%26#39;t think of Duane%26#39;s Ono Char Burger as a place for dinner -- it is just a little roadside shack with a few pic nic tables nearby. However, their burgers are good -- not a bad lunch. All three of your last dinner choices are good. My personal favorite is Hukilau Lanai.

You all are great!

maria_rn: we stay the first night at the Princeville and then the rest of the time at the Grand Hyatt. I will take note of the strong Beach House drinks and thankfully the Hyatt isn%26#39;t far away! :)

CAnative: We%26#39;ll put Joe%26#39;s in the mix if we don%26#39;t do the Hyatt%26#39;s brunch.

Daisydog76: Happy to give TipTop the edge since we%26#39;ve got a vote for it.

kimocat: Hanalei Dolphin v. Hanalei Gourmet may depend either on how much we spent on Maui during part 1 of the trip :) or which has a shorter wait. I%26#39;m hoping to make it to the Princeville in time for the sunset on our arrival night so we%26#39;ll eat after that.

Duane%26#39;s is on the list as a dinner choice because we%26#39;ll be leaving the North shore late on that day and will need a quicker stop and/or a more budget friendly choice. (Got to keep DH happy with a mix of restaurant prices!) :)

Guess I%26#39;ll narrow to Duke%26#39;s or Hukilau Lanai for last night -- will have to keep investigating!

We liked Hanalei Gourmet for lunch. If you get there early, you should avoid a big lunch crowd.

I see you have your reservations for Tidepools and Beach House. Those were our 2 favorite places for dinner!

Looks good to me :-) The one place we didn%26#39;t get to try for dinner was Plantation Gardens (next time).

We%26#39;ve stopped at Wrangler%26#39;s Steakhouse in Waimea on two separate trips - it%26#39;s not the best food you%26#39;ll find, but it%26#39;s relatively inexpensive and you can sit out on the front porch and watch the world go by. I loved the Kau Kau Tin this last visit.

Kalaheo Cafe %26amp; Coffee Co. is a great breakfast stop on the way to Waimea Canyon.

Sueoka (sp?) Market in Koloa has a reputation for good, inexpensive plate lunches - we haven%26#39;t been there yet, but it%26#39;s on the list!

Barbecue Inn in Lihue is a VERY local joint - lots of fried food (I had popcorn shrimp) and macaroni/pasta salad, just FYI.

I think we%26#39;re the only ones on TA who ever go here, but DH can%26#39;t leave the island without going to Genki Sushi in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. It%26#39;s not the best sushi you%26#39;ll ever have, but it%26#39;s fairly quick and inexepensive (it always magically comes out to $25 for the two of us, no matter what we order!).

Hands down - Hukilau Lanai over Dukes. No question about it. This year we tried the Barbeque Inn in Lihue for the first time and it was very good. Portions were big and the meal included homemade pie! It is also convenient to the airport, so we ate there before boarding the plane for long trip home.
