We are taking the NCL cruise next week and will be in Maui for 2 days. The first day we are renting a car and driving to Hana. The second we need to know if we can take a bus from the pier to Kaanapali Beach. We have until 4 to get back to the ship which leaves at 6 PM.
Bus to the Beach
I believe that NCL has a ';Lahaina On Your Own'; bus that would get you within striking distance of Ka%26#39;anapali Beach. From Lahaina, you can pick up the Ka%26#39;anapali shuttle.
Bus to the Beach
Thank you I will call them to check this out.
We have an outreach table at Maui Mall every other week for International Year of the Reef, to talk to cruise ship passengers walking from the pier/harbor to catch buses at Maui Mall.
This is a multiple bus trip, that can either be stressful, or an adventure. I have not seen any tourist information booths at any of the Kahului and Wailuku shopping areas, just literature racks.
Maui County has a contract with Robert%26#39;s to operate an inexpensise public bus system. Website: http://www.mauicounty.gov/bus/
Bus #6 Kahului Loop leaves Maui Mall at 0:19 after the hour and arrives at Queen Ka`ahuma Mall at 0:30 after the hour. The Kahului Loop bus is free. The reverse loop Bus #5 leaves Maui Mall at 0:08 after the hour, but goes to Wal-Mart and takes 50 minutes to get to Queen K.
Queen Ka`ahumanu is the transfer point to the Kihei and Lahaina Islander routes. You have seconds to jump off one bus and onto another, as the buses leave for South and West Maui at 0:30 after the hour. Bus fares are $1.00 per trip and there are no transfers.
Both Kihei and Lahaina buses stop at Ma`alaea Harbor (Maui Ocean Center). You will arrive in Lahaina at the Wharf Cinema shopping center, 60 minutes after leaving Kahului at 0:30 after the hour. It is a beautiful coastal drive into Lahaina town.
Some Lahaina Islander buses seem to continue on toward Ka`anapali (Whalers%26#39; Village shopping cneter) and Napalii, otherwise it is a separate bus (for another $1.00). Ka`anapali buses leave from Lahaiana at 0:30 after the hour.
I%26#39;ve directed people from the cruise ships to take the bus to Kihei town to use the Kam I, II, and III beaches because they are closer and take less time on the bus. I%26#39;ll plan a ';Maui adventures day'; for myself one of these days and ride to bus through West Maui.
