Two Extra Nights - Should I Stay in West Maui or Hana?

I%26#39;ll be visiting Maui in June and I%26#39;m staying at the Four Seasons in South Maui for most of the trip. I have two extra nights and I%26#39;m trying to decide if I should stay in West Maui or Hana. I%26#39;d prefer less expensive lodging than the FS, maybe $350 a night if possible. Should I stay in West Maui or Hana? Can anyone recommend a nice hotel?

Two Extra Nights - Should I Stay in West Maui or Hana?

There is only one hotel in Hana-- the Hotel Hana Maui. I doubt you can get a room for under $350, but I am not sure. I love Hana and I would stay there in a heartbeat. Sorry, I%26#39;ve never stayed in West Maui.

You can easily visit West Maui a day or two while staying down south. So I would say go check out the rain forest and Hana. As was mentioned, the only Hotel is the Hotel Hana and you won%26#39;t touch it for $350.00. But, there are plenty of nice cottages you could stay at easily for that price.

Here might be an example of somewhere that would fit your budget and include a nice dinner at the Hotel Hana, just a short distance away:

This isn%26#39;t going to be a FS kind of a place. But the beauty of your surroundings will more than make up for it.

Hotel Hana, hands down.

I spent most of my time in Kihei,so I found Hana to be a real treat. It was beautiful with fields full of horses nearby. I felt like I could breath there. I don%26#39;t remember a lot of restaurant choices, but I packed a cooler and there was a woman making Thai food under a tent near the softball fields. It was delicious.

The bottom half of this journal page has photos I took getting to Hana and being there.

I disagree. We love West Maui and it is different from Wailea. I suggest the Sheraton. Join Starwwod for free for a discount.

We stayed our first 2 nights in Hana on our last trip

and loved it! Talk about a relaxing way to explore the area before (and after) all the crowds and traffic! There are a lot of other lodging options other than Hotel Hana that offer a lot more for less money. We stayed at Hana Bay Hale for less than $200.00 a nite, and the place was very clean, roomy, and very comfortable bed, but no luxury here. BBQ on a nice deck with a tree-filtered view of the bay, but it is not (as pictured on their website) on the water.

If you are into relaxing and exploring and don%26#39;t need fancy pools or gourmet restaurants, Hana! We stayed 2 nights early in our last trip and the next to last two nights there this Fall.

I think you could get a room at the Hotel Hana Maui for about that price, if not there are some very beautiful, albeit not necessarily fancy accomodations there.

The food at the hotel is very good, IMO, or at least it was 3 years ago. We plan to dine there again.

That being said, we are spending our last night at Kaanapali, and the 1st 11 nights in Kihei.

Whatever you choose, do the other your NEXT trip-excuse to return, not that you%26#39;ll likely need one....

My bad, unless you get a deal, cheapest at Hotel Hana Maui is 475/night. Ouch.

If you want something quaint, we stay at Tradewinds Tropical cottages, there are two on property, we love it, but are not Four Seasons folks, not that we would mind staying there, but that would require having nothing for retirement, LOL. Tradewinds is a working tropical flower farm and each cottage is fully equipped, full kitchen, living area, bedroom, bath... Hot tub on lanai with hibachi.

Here%26#39;s the website:

We did the last two days of our trip in Hana and stayed at the tradewind cottages Hale Kukuna I, it was 250 a night and well worth it. Hana is a nice change of pace from south and west Maui. Going to the seven pools alone is worth staying in Hana. It%26#39;s amazing to see the rain forest and the waterfalls.

Hana sounds amazing. We just need to decide on a place to stay. The Hotel Hana Maui sounds great, but it%26#39;s a little more than we wanted to spend.
