Beach Villas at Ko Olina?

We booked 2 weeks in July through a priveate owner in the new phase. Units were scheduled to be available beginning April 1st. Has anybody been there yet? What was your impression? Any information is helpful. 77 days and counting.

Beach Villas at Ko Olina?

We stayed next door at the Marriott Ko%26#39;Olina Beach Club a couple of weeks ago. Walked by the property many times and it looks very nice. I even looked up some units for sale to get a feel for pricing ;-)

The only negative I found are the lack of nice (not fancy) restaurants nearby. I was told Roys and most places at the JW Marriot required long pants for men, so we didn%26#39;t even bother with them. The one ';casual'; place at the JW, Naupaka Terrace, was pretty good (but not cheap). At the Beach Club, Chucks was not worth a re-visit but Kolohe%26#39;s Beach Bar %26amp; Grill wasn%26#39;t bad. In Kapolei (where you%26#39;ll find Safeway %26amp; Longs for supplies), the only places we saw were fast food and chains. We ate Chinese once which was OK but nothing special.

I guess most people stay in condos and prepare their own meals, so restaurants aren%26#39;t a priority in that area. We prefer to eat dinner out, and didn%26#39;t want a long drive home.

Overall I liked the area and the lagoons weren%26#39;t crowded at all.

Dusty: Thanks for all the information.

Kitty: Thanks to you, as well. Disappointing to hear about the restaurant scene. We stock up on basics at the grocery store, but we always go out for a nice (not fancy) dinner. Did you find any other decent restaurants within 15-20 minute drive?

Have you been able to see actual photos of the unit you are renting? I looked some up on vrbo and mainly found stock photos from the sales brochures. Also found no %26#39;view from our lanai%26#39; photos.

I%26#39;m looking for a 1 BR for a late January stay before we head to our place on Maui.

Yes, I have seen photos of the actual unit we are renting, including lanai views. I think most of the postings are using stock photos because the units are brand new and have just recently (I hope!) been completed. I can%26#39;t do you much good, since the unit we are renting is a 2 bedroom. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information. I hope you will post something about the place when you return. It%26#39;s so hard to find a nice, *newer* condo on Oahu.

You may want to post a new question asking about restaurants near Ko%26#39;Olina. I didn%26#39;t bother because I always heard ';plenty of restaurants in Kapolei';.

I really liked Hale%26#39;iwa and we went there for dinner once. It was a little over a half hour drive but the traffic wasn%26#39;t too bad and the scenery nice. We ate at Breakers, which was a nice bar %26amp; grill; pretty good food but not fine dining. There were several other restaurants there that we would like to try on a return trip.

As an owner I can confirm that the only reason there are stock photos is because these are brand new and we are only just closing on the unit next week. Once furnished also next week We will post pictures. We are very excited and have always loved the area for when we used to live there. There are plenty of restaurants but nothing exceptional. Roys is good but expensive, the steak house in the marriott is ok but nothing special. Keole out door grill is most enjoyable since you eat right on the beach. and remember there will be an outdoor grill for owners and guests ONLY at the Beach Villas. How good remains to be seen since it will only just be opening up, but since it will be run by Roys it should be decent.

We tend to barbque most of our meals with our crowd and we entertain when there since we know many people there. Steaks from Costco or Sams are always better than those you get at the restaurant. The other basic restaurants include several chains including Chiles, and Outback. This will change next year when several more restaurants open in Ko Olina. I am not sure but I believe there is a restaruant opening up at the Marina as well this year. Check the web sites for the two hotels out there for information on their facilties which are very short walks from the Villas. A drive into Honolulu is not at all bad to check out all the great places there. You do find yourself getting lazy though and not wanting to leave the resort.

You can find restaurants on the west side of Honolulu such as Sam Choys which are a bit closer. You will have a great time it is a wonderful place to relax and escape.

Other things though do not head out during morning rush hour going into town and try not to be coming back to Ko Olina from town between 3:30-6 it is a nightmare with traffic. Plan accordingly. Also go to the Ko Olina web site for things to do. You will not be bored unless you want to be.

There are some great restaurants near Ko Olina that those who aren%26#39;t locals might not know about.

-In Kapolei there is....

-Boston%26#39;s pizza, you can take out or eat outside at some plastic tables in front of the shop but there is no seating inside. It is some of the best pizza I have ever tasted and it is huge, it doesn%26#39;t fit inside a normal pizza box. It is located in the strip mall with Safeway on the far right hand side.

-Kularb Lao-Thai is right next door to Boston%26#39;s. Great Thai food! Try the crispy calamari and yellow curry with chicken; you can get it as mild or hot as you want it.

-Kazoku is a sushi place that is amazing. I%26#39;ve actually seen them filet a whole fish right in front of me, talk about fresh! It is conveyer style or you can sit in a booth that will ONLY seat four. There is usually a wait on weekends but don%26#39;t worry it goes fast. This is in a little mall across from Home Depot.

-There is also an Outback %26amp; Taco del Mar next to Kazoku. A Chili%26#39;s, Jack in the Box, %26amp; McDonalds are also near the Safeway.

-I would not suggest many of the other restaurants in Kapolei.

In Royal Kunia........

-Auntie Pasta, an Italian restaurant, is in a tiered shopping center. Get there early as there is usually a wait.

-There is also a Denny%26#39;s in the same shopping center.

In Ko Olina.....

-Roy%26#39;s Ko Olina. This is spendy but a beautiful view. I wouldn%26#39;t wear a swimsuit but it can be casual. You are next to a huge resort area so you see all kinds of dress; go as dressy as you want.

-The Marriot Resort has a few restaurants and contrary to what others have said men do not need to wear long pants.

-Marriot Beach Villa%26#39;s also have a few eateries including Chuck%26#39;s which also can be casual dress.

-Paradise Cove Luau is right inside Ko Olina and it of course has the usual luau food.

Hope this helps!
