Travelling to Kauai with a Baby?

I am thinking of going to Kauai with my wife, my parents, and a baby this september. My baby will be 9 months at the time of travel. I am curious if you feel this would be a good place to travel with a baby. Also, are there any other baby-friendly places that you would recommend within 6 hours flying time from San Francisco?

Kaua`i is fine for little keiki. You might look into getting a cottage at Anini Beach, as it%26#39;s quiet and very shallow, but also offers deeper water for adults. It%26#39;s best in the morning, but you%26#39;ll want to keep out of the sun in the afternoon anyway. The only drawback to Anini is that you have to drive into Princeville (10-15 minutes) or Hanalei (a little farther) for shopping, food, etc. You might also look into Hanalei. the bay is great.

September should still be fine on the north shore.

ditto pzp. what a great place for baby pics!

If you choose a condo, Hanalei Bay Resort on the North Shore has a baby area in their pool. It is a little sandy area with inches of water. I see many couples with small children here. You could rent a 2 bedroom. The second bedroom has it%26#39;s own entrance and lanai which would be nice for your parents. Another nice thing about HBR is they have a restaurant on site. If you want to leave for a quick dinner and have your folks watch the baby you are super close if anything goes wrong. From SFO it is just 5 hours direct on United. Your other options are Hawaiian via HNL or Northwest via HNL. You could also fly American via LAX. September is fabulous on Kauai. I have the names of a few babysitter services if you need them.

Some suggestions for traveling with an infant is get a good backpack, don%26#39;t over do, and lather on the sunscreen. I think you all would love Kauai.

I must have missed this post from a couple of days ago. Anyhow, give me a couple of weeks and I%26#39;m sure that I%26#39;ll have lots to say about this topic. We leave on Friday for 12 nights in Kauai with a 7 month old and a 3.5 year old. I%26#39;ll post a report about traveling to Kauai with a baby when we return.

We are more resort type people, but we are staying at a privately owned condo at Hanalei Bay Resort for the first 8 nights of our vacation because it seems to be the best of both worlds. We have the space and kitchen of a condo, but the amenities of a resort.

Like I said, I%26#39;ll post a report when we return!

you%26#39;re getting lots of great advice here.

i%26#39;ve travelled to kauai twice w/ babies (once w/ our daughter, once w/ our son)

the important things to consider when choosing a place to stay are:

must have a washer/dryer (don%26#39;t have to bring nearly as many clothes this way)

must have a full kitchen (makes getting your child fed in the morning much easier - and that way you don%26#39;t have to get up and go out for breakfast every day)

must have bedroom separate of living area (otherwise, it%26#39;s nearly impossible to put the kids down for the night).

We%26#39;ve been traveling to Kauai with our two boys since they were infants (they are now 6 %26amp; 9). We stay in Poipu for business purposes. We love Baby%26#39;s Beach in Poipu. I have pictures of my two boys at all ages in Kauai. There are great places to stay all over the island and plenty of baby friendly beaches. Check out this website for more beach information: www.KauaiExplorer.com

We rented all of our baby stuff from www.ReadyRentals.com. They deliver and pickup from your condo or house. We rented a baby backpack one year so we could do a lot of hiking. They also have jogging strollers, cribs, etc.

If you need a sitter for any reason, we have used and love Happy Kids Kauai (www.HappyKidsKauai.com). I highly recommend this company. We had a bad experience with a hotel recommended sitter when my son was 2 so we only use this company now.

And I echo the recommendations on a condo or house. You%26#39;ll want the extra room and place to hang out while the baby is napping. A washer and dryer are a must!
