I was originall planning to take a tour ($58.00) to see Pearl Harbor. But from reading this forum, shuttles are available for much less. Has anybody taken a tour? What tour company? Is it worth the extra cost? What are the costs of the shuttle and entry costs to the museum?
My second question: Has anybody stayed at the Resort Quest Waikiki Beachside Hotel? Any reports?
Thanks
Pearl Harbor %26amp; ResortQuest Beachside
USS Arizona Memorial is free
USS Missouri is about $15
USS Bowfin is about $10
Pacific Aviation Museum is $14
Kids are less for those.
The $58 tour you are planning to take is probably a driving tour of Oahu or Honolulu that includes USS Arizona Memorial. Or it could be a tour that includes USS Missouri and/or USS Bowfin.
The $11-$15 shuttles are transportation from Waikiki to USS Arizona Memorial %26amp; back to Waikiki.
USS Missouri, USS Bowfin %26amp; Pacific Aviation Museum ticket office is across the parking lot from USS Arizona memorial visitors Center.
There is also another nice military tour called Home of the Brave if you are really into military history:

My advice is to rent a car %26amp; get out %26amp; see Oahu.
Pearl Harbor %26amp; ResortQuest Beachside
We stayed at the Beachside a long time ago, when it was the surfside. It recently has been purchased by Aqua and I know it needs some upgrades so not sure what type of shape it is in, but I would guess not very good. The rooms are very small. I would only stay here if I got the oceanfront room, the other rooms will have very poor views. But if you can live with a small room and a hotel that needs renovation, the good thing is you get a delightful full ocean view and it is in a very good location for a good price. It will only be about 20 yards to the beach from the hotel. The Resortquest Circle oceanfront would probably be a better bet if the price was close. The oceanfront views from these hotels are the best in waikiki for the price, particularly from the higher floors.
We stayed at the Beachside in Jan. 2006 for two weeks and found it to be a delightful place. I agree with the other post concerning the ocean side rooms - the view is absolutely better. There are a few rooms on each floor that have no window at all. A guy in the room next to ours actually preferred that because he suffered from fear of heights, so it is a personal preference.
We split the time between two rooms having an ocean view room for part of the time and a room in the back the other part. We didn鈥檛 mind the back room, while it didn鈥檛 have a good view it had a large lanai that we enjoyed.
The rooms were not large but very adequate for two people.
They offered a free basic continental breakfast which we ate in our room or the dining area.
The people that ran the place may have been the best part of it though. Everyone was so helpful and friendly 鈥?a lot of Aloha. The guys at the front desk would play there ukuleles and guitars and sing beautiful songs.
We鈥檒l stay there again.
Personally I wouldn鈥檛 bother with a tour. There are plenty of shuttle companies that offer round-trip trans. for around $16.00 or one can take the bus.
I%26#39;ve stayed here numerous times. Last year I was here twice. Must get the oceanfront, I think Aqua calls it deluxe oveanview. You have sweeping unobstructed views of waikiki beach. The rooms are small but comfortable and the balcony is great. SDo not stay on the 3rd floor as the balcony is obstructed from the front. The staff is great and you are across from Kuhio beach. There is a bus stop (trolly) right across the street. You can go roundtrip to Pearl harbor for $9.00. Ask at the front desk. Great food, fun and UNBELIEVABLE views for less than at any other hotel with same views. Enjoy!
