Nohonani Condos

Has anyone stayed at Nohonani recently. I am wondering if it is as bad as the last reviewer described. I know the quality of the condo units vary a lot but is the pool really bad? And how is the beach out front? Are there ceiling fans? Would it be too hot at the end of March? Is it noisy by the pool? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Nohonani Condos

Is it the Noelani condo%26#39;s you are talking about? or where is the Nohonani?

Nohonani Condos

The Noelani is near Kahana and the Nohonani is about 1 mile south in Honokowai area. The Noelani has two oceanfront pools and a Jacuzzi spa that has been completely renovated. The property is Three diamond AAA and has consistant deluxe accomodations.

Please note that the Nohonani is different from the previous poster%26#39;s comment about a place with different spelling. Nohonani is north of Kaanapali and has privately owned condo units. We stayed at 403 and it must be the filthiest unit I%26#39;ve ever stayed in.

It has a spectacular view and location, and, as the owner pointed out, is constantly rented. I can understand that, but wonder if people ever repeat a visit. There are lots of beds, so larger groups must be delighted in the price, which Trip Advisor has averaged to $159 per night. We were there in March, so paid over $300 per night. What a rip!

One of the screens is so dirty you can%26#39;t see through it. It is up high, and faces the roof opposite the view which they keep clean, but air is constantly passing through, so you are breathing that crud. I had a cough develop partway through the stay. The bathroom fan was thick with dust and was beginning to sound as if it was wearing down. The beams are thick with dust. The bedrooms are not completely enclosed, so if privacy is an issue, don%26#39;t stay here. We bought beach mats to put up at a doorway. To continue the dirty theme: ants in the kitchen, space by fridge was thick with food on floor, wallpaper is dirty and marked. The place is being painted between guests, but if they say it%26#39;s renovated, consider the cleaning that%26#39;s not being done. We had to scrub the kitchens and bathrooms before we could use them. The collection of hair in the tub was gag inducing. The light fixtures are thick with bugs.

If you have any health issues or wish to not risk any, don%26#39;t stay in this unit. The owner has another condo on the third floor. She doesn%26#39;t seem to get it. She did refund the ';cleaning fee.'; but at the price we paid, she was laughing all the way to the bank. It really is too bad because the location is great, the view is outstanding. If the condo was cleaner, and I mean more than the usual maid service, then it would be good value.

Question for Victoria please,

Did you rent this thru VRBO? What you describe could present a serious health issue to almost anyone. If this was a VRBO I suggest sending this post to the owner, if you rented thru an agency, same suggestion. If this is a property managed unit, they need to be informed. Someone has got to take responsibility for the filth. Many times the owner is not even aware of the problems nor is the rental agency because this info. never reaches them, it is so very important when issues like this are encountered to inform the person in charge and give them the opportunity to correct it. We once stayed in a unit w/new off white carpet, but the carpet was full of stains. We reported it directly to the manager of the very large and well known agency on Maui and when he investigated he found out the maid service that worked in that area was not ';spot cleaning'; any of the carpets, but no one had let him know. Once he knew the problem he was able to address it and completely changed the way the maid service takes care of the carpets. Most owners would be appalled if they had this kind of info. and would immediately remedy it and if not they don%26#39;t deserve ANY business. I think if I was the owner and knew this, I would give you a total refund.

Ok- I really HATE to say this , but we stayed at the Nohonani in October, and there were roaches in the kitchen. Little tiny ones, but they were roaches all the same. I sorta freaked out at first, but when I calmed down, I decided not to let it ruin our trip.

So we bought Raid at the Star Market, I sprayed down the kitchen, and we didnt see them the rest of the trip. I%26#39;m sure that roaches are common in Hawaii, being that it never gets cold enough to kill them off. Ok-- I said it!

But on the up-side--the view is KILLER! The veritable ';million dollar view';. The room had spotty carpets(who cares?) and a not-so-great mattress, but the room wasn%26#39;t dirty. Pool was OK, beach was pretty but not swimmable (rocky), and the ceiling fans work. If it wasnt for the roaches in the kitchen, I would give this place a great review. We didnt spend that much time in the room anyway. We never saw the manager to complain, because we always left early and returned late, but I did register my complaint on the checkout papers. Next time we will try a different condo in Honokowai. Sorry, Nohonani!

Oh, I should also add that it was unit #301, and we paid $147/night. Maybe it was just bad luck with the unit, but if one unit has roaches, wont they be in the whole building?

Yes there were bugs, I don%26#39;t know if they were roaches, though. We were constantly cleaning the kitchen.

we did talk to the owner. She focussed on the view, offered us a refund on the remainder to go elsewhere--we didn%26#39;t know how hard that would be, so stayed. She gave us a refund on the ';cleaning fee'; only. It worked out to over $300 per night on top of that.

I have pix of the screens---couldn%26#39;t see through them, and of the fans in the bathroom as well as the black crust on the bathtub. Do you want to know about the hair clogs in the tub drain? Yech.

I think we rented through Aloha Rentals. Sorry, forgot to include that. I understand Maui rentals will only take renovated rentals, they might be a better way to go. I don%26#39;t know the outfit you mentioned above. Please let me know.

I agree we should have found a way to let someone know about health issues, but who would you call? Who wants to stick around on vacation waiting for someone to show up? This place needed deep cleaning.

BTW, in response to a comment above, we did speak to the owner, as I stated above. She focussed on the painting she planned to do, the new carpet--cheap and already looking not great-- and the view.

I stand by the need for deep cleaning.
