Grand Wailea pools - Is the price worth it?

We%26#39;re going to Maui this summer for the first time with our 8 year old daughter and staying at a condo in Kehei. I%26#39;m trying to decide if we should splurge and stay at the GW for one night so my daughter can enjoy the much raved about pools there. Is it just like going to a waterpark? Is it a disney type adventure? I%26#39;d appreciate hearing your views and experiences.

thanks!

YES worth a splurge!

We stayed at GW and the pools were decent, but not like the great waterpark.... basically there are 2 big slides that are fast and windy, then there is a rope swing, water elevator, and a series of smaller slides that lead from pool to pool. I found the pools in a bit of disrepair. Also a lazy river and a couple whirlpools.

For me, I say it%26#39;s nice to have if you%26#39;re staying there, but wailea beach is so amazing it seems silly to hang out at the pools. I would definitely recommend the hotel and especially the spa if you plan to stay in wailea, but not just for the pool. Of course an 8 year old could get many hours of entertainment out of any pool, but nowhere close the disney waterparks at magic kingdom.

Yes, stay at Grand Wailea...Your kids will love it! and you will too! How many nights will you be in Maui? We split our stay last time betw here and another location near Kaanapali....

I just re-read yr post...Yes, splurge one night...You can check-in ';early'; and get to use the pool that day..and then check-out ';late'; and have the next day too! GREAT IDEA! We did this in Kauai when we stayed at the Point in Poipu and splurged one night for the Grand Hyatt next door! WELL WORTH IT! The icing on the cake!

Yes, do it! It would be fine to book the cheapest room as you will be out around the grounds more than you are in your room.

I also meant to add that I would make that the last day or two of your stay as it is such a great place to enjoy. It may also be hard to start off there and then try to convince your 8 yo that the pool at the condo will be fine! HA Either way, you will have a great time!

While you are there, make sure the grown-ups stop in at the Grotto bar! So cool to drink under a waterfall! (Kids are not allowed.) They do close at 5:00 - so don%26#39;t wait for nightfall.

Sorry guys-the GW is nice but i cant justify $300 plus -just to use the pool?I know its gorgious but....maybee a spa day might be better-their spa is worth it.

We stayed at the Grand on one of our more recent trips. DH liked it; I didn%26#39;t. Way to big, cold and impersonal for my tastes. Crowded; hard to get a lounge chair at the pool(s). Nice beach though; I was there last week.
