Construction in Waikiki?

Hi - I was in Waikiki January 07 and found there was a lot of construction happening, so lot%26#39;s of noise. What is the current status? Is Trump Tower built yet? Is the Royal Hawaiian still closed for contstruction? Is Kalakaua Avenue messy, due to construction work? I found last time, when on the beach there was constant noise, so hoping by December 08 (my next trip), this will have all been completed. Would appreciate feedback from recent visitors or locals.

I usually stay at Pacific Monarch, but looking at Hilton Prince Kuhio this time, which should be at the quieter end.

Thanks Lindy

Construction in Waikiki?

I googled Trump Tower a while back and there are construction updates posted. Believe it is suppose ro be done in August of 09.

Construction in Waikiki?

Trump Tower should stil be under construction for a bit. The Royal Hawaiian is scheduled to reopen on January 01, 2009.

I believe all, renovations to the Royal Hawaiian Center completed in June 2008 - although I do see that the Hilo Hattie is not open yet??

Just walked Kalakaua 2 days ago, it%26#39;s fine. Trump tower still in progress, looks like a lot more needs to be done. Most of the construction on the Royal Hawaiian Center is done, but some shops have still not opened. The hotel as stated is supposed to re-open in Jan.

Just head to the Kapiolani park end of Waikiki, it%26#39;s always more quiet down there because the hotels are not right on the beach. Even if there was construction it wouldn%26#39;t bother you while sitting down on the sand (like at the central part of the beach).

re Trump Tower and they told me construction to be finished January 2009? Give them another email to make sure.

Hi Lindy,

I spent Aug 28 - Sept 04 in Waikiki. There is considerable construction in and around Lewers, Kalia, Helumoa and Saratoga Streets. One cannot avoid the noise because of construction/renovation at several other hotels in the immediate area. (Outrigger Reef, Waikiki Parc, Imperial, Ohana to name a few.) The pounding of jackhammers and the never ending ';beep-beep-beep'; of heavy duty vehicles echoes from building to building.

Trump Tower - No way it will be completed Jan 2009. It%26#39;s built up to about 14 stories of 38. There are two large cranes overhead that start at 7:00AM continuing to 5:00PM.

Royal Hawaiian - It%26#39;s got a ways to go before re-opening. They tell me perhaps Feb 2009.

Kalakaua Ave. is in good shape but minor work continues at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. No significant noise there.

I don%26#39;t know about Pacific Monarch nor Hilton Prince.
