Hello, we are staying at Kaanapali Shores Condos and would like to know how long it would take to get to Turtle Town to snorkel?
Turtle Town?
The so called turtle town is on the south end of Maui. If you go to Maluaka Beach, in front of the Maui Prince you can snorkel out to the buoy where most of the cat%26#39;s anchor. You can also see turtles if you snorkel to the left of the beach and over to the second point. There are arches out there that the turtles hang out at. It will take you about 45min.to an hour give or take and traffic, to get there from Kaanapali.
Turtle Town?
Thank you so muhc!
Rebecca66, there is a big tree at the south end of Maluaka where you can hang out all morning and not get a nasty sunburn.
Just remember to take the bypass highway (Piilani) until you get to Wailea (I think its Wailea Ike Dr) or it will be a sloooow go. Park in one of the lots on the 2nd Makena Rd just past the Maui Prince. Take a lunch with you because you Will want to stay for a long time.
Uh Oh, I am horrible with directions. Sounds like I am going to get lost but, what better place to get lost than Hawai. :D I have printed your info and will definately take it with us. It%26#39;s just my Sister and I so we should have a great adventure.
You%26#39;ll do fine! :) We learned that it%26#39;s HARD to get lost on Maui. The roads are easy to follow. People don%26#39;t rush there like in major cities and the signs are well posted.
If you do take a wrong turn - you just may find some great things you never would have thought of :)
One more tip - if you%26#39;re renting a car, they%26#39;ll always give you a good map. Because Maui is so small, the maps are nice and easy to read.
Thank You! That is nice to hear that it is easy to get around, I get lost going to Boulder from Broomfield which is about 5 miles apart. 38 days, my Sister and I are sooooo excited. There are lots of tours offered for Molikini, should we do one of those or will this be good enough?
At the airport baggage area you will see the ';racks'; with all the what to see booklets. Look for the one that had directions and info on different snorkel site. It%26#39;s 8 1/2 by 11..can%26#39;t remeber the name. The directions are very helpful.
Well hi neighbor, getting lost from Broomfield to Boulder? LOL
Also keep in mind that you can see turtles at many of the shore snorkeling spots. We stayed in the south on Sugar Beach (which is not really a snorkeling beach) and we had two turtles out there every morning to swim with. In fact, pretty much every place we snorkeled we saw turtles, I was surprised by that. We went in June a year ago, maybe it was just turtle time.
If I were you, I would skip the Molokini trip, the couple we went with did it and was very disappointed with it compared to the other places we went on our own.
My 2 cents ...
ditto on the Molokini trip. We found we could see the reef and fish much better just snorkeling off shore. At Molokini the reef was pretty far below you so you couldn%26#39;t see the fish as well. We even saw plenty of turtles just snorkeling off shore. We did most of our snorkeling in south Maui around the Maui Prince and south of there.
