chocolate haupia pie

OK, I am early planning for our fifth Kauai trip next year. Trying to get the really important stuff dialed in.

Where can one buy chocolate haupia pie on Kauai? Where is the best one? Lots of details appreciated (I%26#39;m hungry!)

Some dinky little bakery in Hanapepe. It was really good too. Maybe pzp or Janet can get the name for you, I know how to get there but I don%26#39;t think my directions would be of much help (ie: turn right at the stop light in front of the temple, etc...)

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

The best one that I know of is Conrad%26#39;s Omoide in Hanapepe - right on the main road on the makai side -altho%26#39; you should check ahead of time to make sure they have it that day - their selections vary somewhat day to day.

Sueoka Store in Old Koloa town sometimes has it as well - but again, it is hit and miss!

Regular haupia pie is pretty easy to find, but the elusive chocolate haupia pie is harder to pin down!

Malama Pono,

Janet

P.S. - if you can%26#39;t find chocolate haupia - try the lilikoi chiffon - it is truly ono!

yooper will be able to find it. He/she is from the UP!!

AND if Yooper can%26#39;t find it maybe they could start marketing the Pasty! Hey if they can have Puka dog they can have Island Pasty from the UP! :)

Maybe a pineapple/porketta pasty...

Ya know, the only thing worse than being a troll is being a FIB or an appleknocker!

Hey Janet - Is that bakery on Hanapepe Rd (between Moi %26amp; Puolo) still open? Its on the side of the road next to the cliff-side. That%26#39;s where I got a chocolate-haupia pie - not Omoide (although that%26#39;s good too if they haven%26#39;t run out).

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Are you talking about ';Grindz';? - I have gone there for breakfast and for pizza - and I do like their homemade breads - but I%26#39;ve never seen chocolate haupia pie there - maybe they do have it later in the day. I%26#39;ve seen cinammon rolls and the like in the a.m.

Can%26#39;t think of where else you might be referring to -no other place really has baked goods other than Grindz and Omoide that I can think of.

Malama Pono,

Janet

Nah... Grindz wasn%26#39;t it. They do make some awesome bread though. I%26#39;ll have to go ask my auntie or uncle if the place I%26#39;m thinking of is still open. The bakery I got the pie at is not too far from the road leading up to Hanapepe Heights. Little store front covered in really dark glass.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

The one right before the bridge to cross over into the main part of Hanapepe town? In the area that still has lots of damaged buildings from Iniki?

Can%26#39;t think of the name of the little place - but if it is kind of a snack shop take-out place - it is still there - kind of by the ice place and the old shrimp place.

Malama Pono,

Janet
