Are there organised tours from Kaanapalii to the volcano on the big island. Should we book before we arrive or when we are there? Is it a very long day for children?

We looked into one of those trips and it seemed to be a pretty long day 12 to 14 hours or so for the ones we looked into. It was an early flight out (yay for airport security) with a late flight back. If we had the time I would have done it, would loved to have seen an erupting volcano. Might do it when we go back.

It depends. If you book and pay in advance can you get your money refunded if Volcanoes National Park is closed or if there is too much vog to make it worthwhile?
I%26#39;d check on the refund policy first.
You didn%26#39;t mention the ages of the children. If they are very young it might be too much to handle. I would check the itinerary to see what kind of rest times you have during the day and make the most of them.
You may not see actual lava flowing but the park is fabulous and one of my favorite places to visit.
Since you are from Australia this may be a once in a lifetime chance for you. The volcano is really active right now so it is a good time to go if the conditions are good.
gohawaii.com....click the links to Big Island and Volcanoes National Park.
How old ? Check the National Parks web site.. large areas of the park are presently closed and park has been totaly closing and evacuating all.
They dont reccommend young children or elderly visit the area at all.
This is due to the new eruption site which is putting toxic levels of gas out o for hundreds on miles... all the way to Maui in fact. Tours may not even be running No idea when it will stop, nor do the scientists.... this has never happenend in known history here...could stop tonight... or 20 years.
I live over 100 miles away and its bad here
