So today it rained (at least in Kapa`a) all day long! We started to BBQ at the resort and got poured on running back to the room with our food! So after lunch we were going to go to the south and find Shipwreck beach but the traffic was horrible and we didn`t feel like sitting in it.
We ended up going to the Kukui Grove mall and coming across the Cold Stone Creamery near the food court.
This was probably the BEST ice cream I`ve EVER had! I tried the Cake Batter with sprinkles and fudge in a waffle cone. OMG! It tasted like I was eating cupcakes... mmm. The staff there were hilarious too and asked us where we were from etc. They said they make the icecream right there and then they mix the other ingredients you ask for. Very expensive though!
I think it`s a chain, so maybe you guys have all tried this and is old news... but they don`t have this place in Toronto... so I loved it!
What a great place to spend a rainy afternoon! :) We rented a DVD for tonight and got some munchies!
Gotta get up early though for our Kayaking trip with Rainbow Kayak. I hope it`s fun!
Take care!
Jen
P.S. you guys have some NASTY cockroaches here! we found one in our bathroom today and it was HUGE! I was FREAKING OUT! Our cockroaches are no bigger than a quarter! At least this has been the only bug we`ve seen in the resort so far. :)
When it rains... go get ice cream!
Yes, we found a ginormous roach yesterday too. I could not sleep until we made sure it was away from my sleeping quarters. Funny...the centipedes don%26#39;t bother me, but roaches...eeek.
Cold Stone Creamery is delish! We have those in Texas too.
Let us know how the kayaking goes.
That was weird talking about ice cream %26amp; roaches at the same time. Okay, I%26#39;ll stop now. :)

GACK! Have you ever seen one of our big, black centipedes? Now *they* freak me out.
Cold Stone Cake Batter ice cream is awesome. I get it with Mac nuts and fudge. You really need to try Lapppert%26#39;s now.
roach -- kinda gross. but they%26#39;re all over and no matter how much you spray you can%26#39;t kill them all.
centipede -- days of agony if it bites. The really big ones are 6 inches plus and move fast. Don%26#39;t be coy about dealing with them.
rethink that reaction!
Pleeeeeeease tell me you guys are kidding!!! I never even knew about cockroaches or centipedes in Hawaii!! Why is it that I have never heard of this? Are they on all of the islands? I have been to Hawaii 4 times and have never seen these things.
Now I feel all creepy crawly!!! It%26#39;s a joke right??

Don%26#39;t forget about the spiders:)

STOPPPP!!! You are bursting my Hawaii bubble!
Pattie ~ LOL ~ I am the same way about bugs. Thanks goodness I never saw one in my 8 day trip to Kauai. I grew up in Florida where they have gigantic roaches and they were utterly disgusting! I just didn%26#39;t want to run into any in Hawaii, and thank goodness I didn%26#39;t!
Jen ~ on your next rainy day, you should try Lapperts. We have a Cold Stone right by where we live, so we concentrated on Lapperts :-)
Have you tried the shave ice yet? I can%26#39;t believe we never had it while we were there (we were too busy eating Lapperts LOL)
Jen ~ OK ~ I just read in another post of yours that you have tried Lapperts. I am jealous that you are experiencing all of those wonderful treats!
Have you tried the Caramacs yet (we got ours from WalMart -- a case of 6 boxes for $9.99 ~ we brought home 2 boxes LOL)
ColdStones is a chain. We have so many of them in California. I don%26#39;t know why she told you they ';make'; the ice cream. They don%26#39;t. What they do is mix the ice cream with other ingredients on this cold stone surface. I like the cake batter with straberries and pineapple with cake pieces in it.
Now about bugs. What makes you think Kauai is any different than any other place? It has bugs and flies and spiders. Here%26#39;s a hint about roaches (which by the way I see VERY few). Make sure you put your garbage out and clean up counters. Another thing, Jen. It might not have been a roach. I%26#39;ve seen these water bugs on the island. They are harmless.
I was lucky enough to have never seen a cockroach until last year in Princeville. The morning we were checking out of a condo they were everywhere. Big 3 inch long ones. Some of our best video footage from last summer is of my husband trying to get one outside. Sooo funny. the camera is shaking from me laughing and periodically ducking!
I%26#39;ve never seen anything but a cute little gecko at Kiahuna though.
