South vs. West shore

Hi all,

I%26#39;m trying to plan out a honeymoon for my fiancee and I. We will be spending about a week in Oahu and a week in Maui. I%26#39;ve been looking at some maps of Maui and it looks like the South Shore is all comprised of Golf courses but t here are some beautiful places to stay. What I%26#39;m worried about though is staying there and having to drive EVERYPLACE for shopping and dining. Is the West Shore more ';walker'; friendly? Are there more things to do there dining/attraction wise than the South Shore?

Thanks

Scott

South vs. West shore

If you stay at Kaanapali in the strip between the Sheraton and the Hyatt, you will have a ncie beachfront paved walkway that is very convenient for restaurants, entertainment and some shopping without driving. You can also catch a free shuttle from the Sheraton or Westin into Lahaina which has even more choices. We never moved the car in the days we stayed there. We loved our experiecne at the Sheraton and highly recommend it! (If you join Starwood, you get a nice discount.)

South vs. West shore

Oh Boy... In terms of walking, you would do well to stay in Kaanapali or Wailea as they both have beach paths. If you are staying in a condo in a non-resort area, you would do better in Kihei than in West Maui, except for Kapalua but then that is a resort area. Reason? There are no sidewalks throughout most of Honokawai, Kahana or Napili. If you want to be close to lots of restaurants and shopping, the K%26#39;pali and Wailea area are great. Kihei is also good for restaurants close to accomodations but this is condo town. In South Maui, you%26#39;ll be closer to the airport, RTH, Haleakala, upcountry areas and quick access to Central Maui. In West Maui, you%26#39;ll be within 5-10 minutes of Lahaina - something everyone needs to experience on Maui - really, it is that important.

You will find golf courses all over West Maui and South Maui. West Maui gets more rain so it will be greener and you%26#39;ll see more rainbows as you look to the West Maui mountainside. South Maui is a well irrigated desert at the foot of Haleakala.

I like to look at wizardpub.com for photos of the hotels and condos.
