Help we are planning our first trip to Kauai in October. We are looking at the Hilton since we are HHonors Members but I%26#39;m not sure the location is what we are looking for. Is there anything namely restaurants and bars within walking distance? I like a hotel that has a restaurant and bar but I also want the option of leaving the property for a couple drinks at night and not having to worry about driving back. Thanks
Hilton Kauai Beach in October
The Hilton is isolated. Other than the hotel bar/restaurant there%26#39;s nothing within a reasonable walk. Especially at night.
The Marriot in Lihue is about the only hotel I can think of with a number of outside restaurants/bars close by. Most resorts here are self contained. The Marriot in Poipu is close to Brenneckes (which really sucks lately IMO).
Some of the east side condos are walking distance to the restaurants. WBR, Pono Kai for example.
Here%26#39;s a yahoo map centered on the Hilton

Thanks for the info. We thought about the Marriott but sometimes those are a little too big. Do you know anything about RequestQuest Kauai Beach at Maka%26#39;iwa? That was the first hotel our travel agent suggested.
The ResortQuest is along the Coconut Coast. It is close to the Coconut Marketplace, Beach Boy condo/hotel and Islander on the Beach. At the Marketplace there is a bar, movie theater, a few restaurants, shaved ice, Lapperts Ice Cream and stores.
The Hilton is very isolated. You would need to drive everywhere.
Heck, if you can use HHonors points for a free stay, why sweat the small stuff (making an assumption since you mentioned you were a HHonors member)? I%26#39;m using my points for a free stay this summer - Woo-hoo! I was extremely excited when this hotel became affiliated with Hilton, as until recently the only options for HHonors members in Hawaii were Oahu and the Big Island (the Hilton Waikoloa Village is a cool place if you like crowds).
The Hilton is isolated, but still within about 4 miles of either Lihue or Kapaa. So you could drive to one of those places and walk around, then go back to the peace and serenity of the Hilton.
CMD - lucky you have a great trip. The most we could hope for at this point is a free room upgrade at Hilton. If I was getting it free I wouldn%26#39;t question anything. But since I%26#39;m paying for it I want to make sure its what I really want. I would hate to go all that way (its a 14 hour trip from MA) and not like the hotel. We%26#39;ve stayed in Maui 3 times in the Kaanapali area and always enjoyed it except the last time, the traffic is getting really bad around the Kaanapali/Lahaina area.
Thanks for your input.
That%26#39;s one of the things I like about the Hilton/Pahio Kauai Beach Villas location---it%26#39;s close to the major towns of Lihue and Kapaa, but on it%26#39;s own secluded beach. They do have a nice sit down restaurant in the HIlton (nice and expensive) as well as a snack bar by their pools and a lounge in the hotel. There are also a few stores in the hotel. So you can find places to spend your money right there at the Hilton if you really want to. You could hit one of the Hilton bars, then walk the secluded beach.
I am using HH points for a free stay in a few weeks.
Does anyone know anything about the spa and fees for massage? Also- wondered if they offer beach side dining? I%26#39;ve seen the private cabanas for rent for a secluded meal at other resorts - wondered if Hilton offers this?
It sounds perfect - quiet and secluded but close enough to the action with a rental...
