Trip report April 15-20th - Long!

This was our 1st trip to Hawaii and this site was very helpful. So I am hoping this report my be of help to someone.

We arrived on Tues aprox 2:30 pm. We flew Hawaiin Airlines - no issues.

Condo - Resort Quest Manhana in Kaanappali. Got there @3:45. We were in room 401. I was kinda disappointed that we did not get an updated room. It was early 80%26#39;s decor. But they did upgrade us to a 2 bed 2 bath. It had plenty of space and it was very clean. The view was awesome. So my DH choose to stay in this room. Problem - Ac did not work realized this when we got back from dinner. They fixed the next am. No noise issues so were were happy.

Tues- After we unpacked went to Whaler%26#39;s Village.

Hula Grill - Dinner on the Barefoot Bar for our 1st MAi Tai and DH had a Pina Colada also VG. Food was just ok. We had the Won Ton appet., Fish tacos and Fish %26amp; Chips. But loved the atmosphere. Right on the water. The sunset was awesome.

Found the ABC store (read about on TA) and stocked up. Got our beach towels, sunscreen and milk, cereal, beer and snacks for room.

Wed -

Road to Hana - woke up @6 am and were in Paia by 7:15. Very little crowds. We used the Mile by Mile book recommended on this site - Very helpful. Did not get car sick. We made numerous stops that we enjoyed. We loved the Black sand beach. The Seven Pools were not open for swimming when we got there. Bit of a disappointment. But we are glad we did the trip. Very long day - but we enjoyed it. Stopped along the way for shave ice, Banana Bread and a great fruit stand outside of Hana for some unusual fruit incl Mangoes that were very sweet.

Hana Bay Juice Co - Got our 2 box lunches and 1st smoothie. Highly recommend.

Thurs -

Gazebo - Had to try those Ban/mac pancakes. The reviews were spot on. Loved them. DH had an omlette also VERY good as was the POG(?) juice. We did have to wait about 20min. But we enjoyed the whales while

standing in line. How cool!

Kapalua Beach - Rented snorkel equip at Boss Frogs. Snorkeled and enoyed the sun.

Black Rock Beach - by Sheraton. Snorkeling was not good. Too windy and strong waves. But did see a turtle!

Old Lahaina Luai - Very good. We really enjoyed the food and the entertainment. Very nice evening.

Fri -

Farmers Mkt in parking lot by Boss Frog - near the Mahana. Numerous vendors with lots of fresh veggies, fruit, ban bread, guacamole, flowers.

Iao Needle - Beautiful, restful and relaxing area.

Paia - Drove back to Paia - the town looked so quaint on our way to Hana. Shopped!

Paia Fish Mkt - Had a nice lunch.

Ono Gelato - Had the Coconut - Really GOOD!

Lahaina - Say the Banyan Tree. Really Cool. Shopped a little saw the sunset - beautiful

Cheesburger in Paradise - We really enjoyed this place. There was a one man band who sang really well. The burger was pretty darn good too.

Sat -

Trilogy snorkel to Molokini - Very highly recommend. The crew were awesome and very professional. They were very customer oriented and fun. Food was good too. Cinammon rolls, ckn %26amp; rice for lunch and dessert! The snorkeling was awesome. Sas tons of fish and a sand shark and the 2nd spot tons of turtels.

Plantation House - Dinner

Breathtaking views. We had reser for 6pm. We got a great seat by the rail to see the sunset. Crab cakes were very good. Hsbd had seafood chowder, my fish was Maui style - Really good, hsbd had pasta with shrimp -very tasty. LOVED IT!. Great way to end our stay in Maui.

Sun -

Off to Kauai for 5 nites.

Did not make it to the South part of the island! Too much to do and not enough time. WE really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for all who post including those who ask the questions as well as those who respond. It helps more than you know.

Trip report April 15-20th - Long!

Great report- thanks! Was the gelato place in Paia? If so, my son had some last summer and it was really good.

Trixee - Yes it was in Paia. It tasted like it was from Italy. Was very good.

Interesting tidbit - gelato actually has less fat than ice cream. Good to know!

Thanks for posting your trip report jm2cc.

Would you stay at the Mahana again?

Also, did you arrive at the Plantation house before your reservation time to get the rail table? We also have 6:00 reservations in a couple of weeks.

Yes I would stay at the Mahana again. The location and views were awesome. If it matters to you, I would ask for an updated room, like I said, it was a tradeoff since we did get the 2 bedroom and 2 baths -which was nice to have the space. And it was very clean.

Plantation house we got there about 15 min early based on what I had read on this site. There were 3 other couples already there. But I think the views would be great from almost any table!
