We are really excited to visit Kauai in July and REALLY want the whole family to enjoy a ZIP excursion.
My youngest will be 10, which meets most of the age requirements of different operators but she eats like a bird and is about 60 healthy pounds ( active girl, athletic)...most require a minimum of 80 lbs...does anyone know if it%26#39;s ';either/or'; with the requirements or do they have to meet both?
I know the next step is to ask them directly but I thought someone on here may have the answer also!
She will be so bummed if she%26#39;s too light...just this morning she told me she packed a heavier lunch so she could begin to put on some weight for the Zip lining adventure! I had to tell her that it was quite ambitious of her but she%26#39;s at a healthy weight for her and twenty extra pounds in 10-12 weeks was not the answer!!
Bye for now :) Tanja
age/weight restrictions for zip tours on Kauai
I know that there is a weight limit but I was looking at the other end of the spectrum for my DH(max 250 lbs). I believe that there is a minumum too but can%26#39;t tell you what it is.
age/weight restrictions for zip tours on Kauai
I would call and find out. When I inquired last summer, they only gave me an age limit (age 8). They did not mention weight but I will assume that is also a factor. She may not be heavy enough at this time.
Thanks for the feedback. I did check with the Princeville ranch tours and their restrictions said
minimum 80 pounds, maxiumum 250...just not sure if it%26#39;s 80 AND 10 yrs old or 80 lbs OR 10 yrs old....
So I guess I will call them!
Thanks again! tanja
I know that weight is the determining factor. The low-end weight limit is to assure the zipper will make it to the landing platform even if the wind is at their front. The high-end weight limit is to assure the zipper can safely land even when the wind is at their back. My son was just 80 lbs. when we first zipped and he came into the landings much slower than I did and I push the maximum weight limit. When we recently zipped on Maui, my son who now weights 86 lbs. still stopped short of a couple platforms. I on the other hand came screaming into the landings and some of them were a pretty rough landing. All of the ziplines we%26#39;ve done (all 3 on Maui) weighed us before we zipped and it was clear anyone below or over the weight limits couldn%26#39;t participate. We did notice that the scales seemed to weigh light (someone who is usually 210 was weighing in at 200 for example).
Just an idea-
Ask if she can wear some ankle weights (the kind that some people wear on a treadmill) while zipping, and then take them off for the hiking between zips. I would hope that would ease their concerns about not having enough weight to reach the platform.
Of course, 20 pounds of ankle weights is a lot, especially for her to carry while hiking. I suspect you would end up carrying them for her, if they let her come.
Good luck.
I had a similar concern as my DD is 8 but not quite 50lbs. We are interested in one of the tours by Outfitters Kauai. I emailed them to ask about minimums as only a 7yo age min on website. Their response was that they designed their ziplines to accommodate smaller zipliners, so there is no weight minimum. I hope this helps!
Have a great trip - we%26#39;ll be there in July as well :)
great idea from Photo Dave! Hoepfully, we won%26#39;t have to have ankle weights on her but it is a thought...lol!!
So Outfitter Kauai will be on my list to check out, if they can accomodate children safely than that would be ideal!
Well, as one Travel poster listed somewhere on here...I%26#39;ll be taking and wearing my Trip Advisor hat so if anyone is on Island July 9 -16th ...come say hi if you see a TA hat on someone!!
See ya, Tanja
Tanja---love your sunset! ;)
We will also be in Kauai July4-16. My daughter is 11 and weighs about 65-70 pounds. I hope she can do it!!! We are still trying to plan what other activities to do. what else are you guys doin?
Hawaiiforus is right on. We did the Princeville Zip two weeks ago and there is one zip that the lighter people can get stranded on. As a matter of fact both of my step-kids had to be thrown a rope and pulled in and they weigh appx. 105 - 115 pounds. We didn%26#39;t think for sure that my wife would make it cause she%26#39;s a whopping 90 pounds but she did.
That zip line is kind of over the swim hole and while we were swimming a lady got stuck out in the middle and one of the guides had to go out and retrieve her.
