trip report -best of - 4-12 to 4-25

Trip report 4-12 thru 4-25 with DH, DS-14, DD -12

We just returned from Maui and wanted to post our opinions on the best of.

Best Hotel Room: Four Seasons Maui

Best Pool: Grand Wailea (as an adult make sure you hit the three hut tubs as your kids take you on a slide and lazy river tour)

Best Dinner: Illiani, 4S Manele Bay, Lana’i

Best Activity: Outrigger Canoe at 4S Maui Runner up – Sporting clays at the 4S lodge on Lana’i

Best Burger: From Ferraros’s pool side service at 4S Maui. Runner up: Grand Wailea cabana service

Best Breakfast: Huplo Court 4S Lana’i runner up- Duo’s 4S Maui

Best Lunch: Leilani’s

Best Lava Flow: Swim up Grotto bar at the Grand

Best Pog: Feast at Lele

Best Poke: Fish Market in Honokawai (ask them to dress it up –Yum and a bit spicy)

Best Fish and Chips: Honokowai Okazuya Deli

Best Shave Ice – Da Local Boy

Best Shopping: Long’s Drug Store at the Cannery Mall. Purchased Maui Raised beef (NY strip steaks), wine, post cards, chocolate covered mac nuts, tacky tourist tubes (the pink %26amp; blue ones we brought to the grand for the lazy river), sun tan lotion, and other souvenirs.

Best Banana Bread and Cookies both from Farmers Market in Honokawai

Best Onion Rings: CJ’s comfort food

Best Snorkeling: Wailea beach (lots of turtles) and runner up black rock

Best Sunset: Papakea L 308

We had only two disappointments:

The Feast at Lele. We found the fish “fishy” and the chicken over cooked. We were expecting better quality food. The dancers were good but we prefer the performance at the OLL.

Dinner at Ferraros: We hoped this would be our best dinner as it was after our sunset vow renewal on the beach in front. Maybe our expectations were too high especially after our best dinner at Illiani. It was so dark; we had to share a flash light to read the menu. The food was average however the service was very good.

One of the best trip reports I%26#39;ve read! Mahalo for keeping it concise and informative.

Sounds like you didn%26#39;t miss much! Thanks for the report.

As Babalax said, very nice concise report, CTmaui! And please don%26#39;t be offended, but I%26#39;m glad you didn%26#39;t tell us about the noisy tourist people, in the room next door, or the beds that were too softin your room.

BTW, I was one of the noisy tourist next door! :)

Just wondering can you go to the Grand Wailea and use there pool for a fee if you are not staying there?

going to Maui for the first time in June with my husband and two teenage daughters.

About the grand:

We met locals who were having the kids birthday party at the Grand. They booked two of the cheapest rooms so they could get 4 braclets per room. There were also people who stayed at the 4S but booked a cheap room at the Grand just so the kids could use the pools. You must stay to play there. Book one night and use the facitlites for two days. Your kids will thank you.

Caddy:

Now that you mention it there were loud tourists above us at the Papakea. I%26#39;m sure people complained becasue security came and shut them down. I loved the Papakea but if you are late night people, you may want to pick a different complex. We were early to bed, early to rise every day.

We stayed at The Papakea, and found the nights were very quiet, but the mornings when our neighbors kids were out on the lanai were very noisy. Woke me up three mornings in a row at 6:15 a.m..
