I need an address or at least street location to plan sightseeing trips and use mapquest. The itenary just list it as HILO, which is not any help at all. The ship is the Golden Princess, if that helps. We will be there in Nov.
Thanks,
Dianne
Cruise ship port location for Princess in Hilo
There is only one port in Hilo and it%26#39;s very close to the center of the town. Here is the link for the map. http://www.matson.com/matnav/ports/hilo.html
Cruise ship port location for Princess in Hilo
i don%26#39;t think hilo is anywhere near Kona.
cruise ships dock at Kona which is on the
west side of Hawaii. Hilo is on the east
side. i%26#39;m trying to find out which nice
beach is near Kona.
good luck to you....
Myrna
Cruise ships also go to Hilo. This is a big boost to the local economy. Hilo is the closest to the VNP and is the county seat, however still a small town. If you just google Hilo, HI you will get a map of the city and it will show you the port.
you wont need a computor program to find your way around.....there are only 4 hiways on the island and only 1 you will be near.... a simple local map is all that is needed. your rental car will have a local map that is more than necessary. The national mark will give you one when you pay the entrance fee.... you wont get lost...unless you pay someone to get you lost.... ( hard to do)
I dont think the dock has an address... other than commercial wharf.....in hilo bay. This is Hawaii..not VA.... lots of places dont have an address here just a PO box. If you need a police officer or Fire truck.... they ask you for directions as to how to get there.....yup....thats Hawaii
The ship will not go to Kona... a 3+ hour drive one way with out stops.
on your own....1. drive north to Akaka falls then return the same way you took...take the well marked ';4 mile'; scenic rout back to Hilo... in Hilo, still on the same hiway.... drive 27 miles on the same road to the National Park.. go to the Visitor center....see whats good to do... then return to the rental car place......same route
you will have has to make 1 right rurn and 2 left turn to get to Akaka Falls then one left to the scenic road.... thenfollow the road to the Park.. return the same route make a right turn into the arport to return the car.....
Dan - don%26#39;t forget that when giving directions usually one of the landmarks will be ';where such and such USED to be';. That was always so helpful when I was new!
Tang in GA
the nearest good beach in Kona is Kua bay ( closed on Wed) from Kona...hiway 19 north to the vets cem, right turn... drive to end. Allow about 35 min drive north and 1 :15 hour back to Kona
distance is about 15 o 17 miles...something like that.
Amen, KailuaMom, I think I asked where the building department was and they told me -- where J.C. Penneys used to be. Or was it Sears.
Nowadays most of the directions people give me use fast food joints as my markers. MickeyD%26#39;s, Wendy%26#39;s, BKlounge. It annoys me because I don%26#39;t ever eat at fast food franchises and I try not to look at the ugly things, so I%26#39;m always going ... um, but what is the cross street? And they never know the cross street.
So you see I haven%26#39;t lost all my mainland ways.
mswings, when you come out of the port, you%26#39;re on a bottleneck road that dead ends, so it%26#39;s very easy. You turn right and the stoplight you come to is the intersection of the two highways.
go straight for Kamehameha Blvd and Hwy 19 (old downtown and the Hamakua coast, Akaka Falls).
Go left for Hwy 11 -- new Hilo, the mall, Walmart, and the road to the volcano.
Turn right and you loop around Banyan Drive and Coconut Island Queen Liliu%26#39;okalani Gardens and come back on Kamehameha Blvd.
Use ';Kuhio Street'; in Hilo on MapQuest to get directions to and from the port. There is only one port the big cruise ships park at and that is the commercial harbor in the industrial area of Hilo. You will be able to walk from the boat off a ramp to shore unlike Kona where you have to take a small boat to get to shore. However, once you get off the boat you have a mile or two of industrial area to get to the more interesting parts of town.
Ok KK _
Now the local ways have gotten me in trouble here, cause I never really know how to direct someone on TA. I bought in to the the local way, and that%26#39;s how I kearned my way around. I don%26#39;t remember all of the street names anymore. I can get around, but don%26#39;t ask me cross streets. (that is, in Hawaii. In CA, I%26#39;m regular!)
LOL
I guess I%26#39;m weird, but I actually know all the major cross streets in Hilo by name and a lot of the minor ones. I%26#39;m into street names, and I like to take back routes to get around. It%26#39;s a little game I play, how to get across town today.
I remember the first time I tried to get off the main highway in Hilo, just wanting to see what UHH looked like, and I got completely lost. I turned on Kawailani because I thought it sounded right, when I wanted Kawili.
Hmm, maybe that%26#39;s why people avoid street names.
