The new Maui Zippy%26#39;s is truly Maui local. Poor planning, poor training, and inexperienced management has resulted in total chaos. Untrainable cashiers are computer illiterate and take 5-10 minutes to key in a simple order. There are no bus-boys or janitors, so the waitresses must bus their own tables, clean the floors, restrooms, and parking lot, which most refuse to do. The %26#39;bakery%26#39; is contracted to S %26amp; J Bakery, so nothing is actually baked at Zippy%26#39;s. I%26#39;ve heard horror stories of birthday cake orders %26#39;getting lost%26#39; when you go to pick up. On our third visit, there was NO COOK, and I%26#39;m not kidding. Our first 2 visits resulted in upset stomach. There is no heat lamp in the window, nor an expeditor, so your food will be delivered COLD, because the waitresses can%26#39;t figure out how to organize the orders in a timely manner. Useless double parking spaces will force you to park in the church parking lot next door.
It%26#39;s a popular place to be %26#39;seen%26#39; by locals, but they%26#39;re all complaining %26amp; it won%26#39;t last long. Zippy%26#39;s Oahu has sent temp waitresses over because the chaos is out-of-control, but that%26#39;s not working either. Who wants to wait 1.5 hours for a simple COLD cheeseburger and COLD fries?
What an embarassement to Maui!!! And we heard the GM is getting the ax.....Good ridence, send us a REAL restaurant!!!
Where%26#39;s Gordan Ramsey when you need him!!??
Beware of the nightmare!!
Why do you keep going back?
Beware of the nightmare!!Another one post wonder !!
Management is highly under-rated. They need some. Don%26#39;t go back for a while. We had the same (almost identical) situation with a Marie Callendar%26#39;s in Lake Tahoe. A large, succesfful company ... but this restaurant was in melt-down. We tried them a couple times thinking that they would get their act together ... and then we gave up.
Wow. I must have very low standards because on my first visit to Zippy%26#39;s, week before their Grand Opening, I was impressed as to how well the staff was trained and how smoothly everything went. Went again last week with my daughter and experienced none of what you have described. I%26#39;ll have to ask Ray about him getting fired. Haven%26#39;t heard that. Interesting.
As for Napoleons, even on O`ahu they do not bake at the restaurants. Everything is made using Naploleon%26#39;s recipes and although I have only tried the Napples so far; they passed the authentic test for us. But what do I know, being ';truly Maui local,'; and all.
Kai.....low standards???!!!! Come on girl, we ALL know that%26#39;s not the case (insert poking finger emoticon here) ;-)
BLBL--your post reminds me about when we stopped at the Lake Tahoe Marie Callendar%26#39;s for breakfast a number of years ago. They said it would be 30 to 40 minute wait. Then when I was trying to decide if the wait was worth it, a guy--about 70 years old--comes from the dining room with his family and says to the hostess that it was the worst service and worst food he had ever had in his life!
Hmmmm, thinks I, do I want to wait at least a half hour to get the worst service and food this guy has had in his life? We left :)
Smart thinking, Travelsaurus!
I remember that the booth in front of us had toddlers who were getting antsy. We all pitched in to keep the kids entertained.
a waitress at california pizza once told me that most of the stuff is trucked in from out of state from their central kitzen -- stuff is defrosted and reheated -- very little from scratch cooking done there
Let me see if I got this right....
You went and got sick. So you went again and got sick again.
And then you went back a third time?!?!?
Sheesh!
Sounds like someone has an ax to grind.
