Honeymoon in Hawaii

Hello All!

I just signed up to Trip Advisor. Hopefully, I can gain some insight for my honeymoon.

The honeymoon is going to be broken up into 2 weeks. Week 1 will be split between Oahu and Kauai. Week 2 will be spent entirely on Maui. We already have the Marriott Maui booked for Week 2.

I%26#39;m creating a post because I%26#39;m trying to figure out what hotels people recommend for Oahu and Kauai. I%26#39;m not sure where to stay. I%26#39;m also trying to learn all I can about the Marriott Maui. Anything I need to know before staying there??

Thanks for the help!

- Kevin

So you have 14 nights? Seven you are spliting between Oahu and Kauai and seen will be on Maui?

What time of the year?

What kind of accomodations (nightly) budget?

What types of things do you want to see and do?

I would reconsider spliting 7 nights beween two islands. Eliminate one or the other. Since you have 7 nights on Maui, and would spend the rest of the trip on Oahu. Keep in mind that island hopping not only consumes $$$, but at least a 1/2 day of your trip.

Do you mean the Marriott Ocean Club (hope I have the name right) on Ka%26#39;anapali Beach? Great location.

There are tons of places to stay on Waikiki, Kauai has few resorts/hotels, but many condos.

Yes the plan is to split 7 nights between Oahu and Kauai and 7 will be on Maui.

Getting married on June 26, 2009. Will probably fly out on June 28. (Need a day to recover from wedding)

We%26#39;re looking for $200 - $400 a night. Would prefer closer to $200. It%26#39;s our honeymoon so we want to go all and stay at nice places .... but we don%26#39;t want to put ourselves in debt for years (if that makes any sense at all???)

Anything and everything. My fiance like to be active so we%26#39;ll probably go on various hikes and Adventures. But we also like to relax. Some days will do excursions others will just chill on the beach. Pearl Harbor is a must see for us.

I hear you on bouncing around. However, we really do want to be able to see 2 islands the first week. This may be the only time we make it out to Hawaii so we want to see as much as possible. It%26#39;s only like $75-$90/person to fly from Oahu to Kauai and the flight is less than an hour.

Yeah the Marriott Ocean Club at Ka%26#39;anapli Beach. That week is a gift from my parents who are Marriott timeshare owners.

Interisland fares are running about $100 pp one way. Each hop will eat up almost half a day considering airport security time, checking and waiting for luggage, renting a car, etc.

Do you like Big City stuff? Then stay Waikiki longer. If Kauai%26#39;s quiet appeals more, cut the Oahu stay down...or out completely. (You could spend two days and one night Waikiki to see a bit of that AND Pearl.)

I%26#39;d stay longer Maui (split stay between West and South Maui or add Hana) or Kauai. I%26#39;d do only two islands.

Can you fly into Island #1 and home direcly from your last island -- leaving only a single %26#39;hop%26#39;?

Nice wedding gift. You%26#39;ll love the beach and the area.

In regards to Kauai, since your trip is during the summer, stay on the Northshore of Kauai - it is at it%26#39;s best then! If you are absolutely committed to the Oahu/Kauai and then Maui, then I would spend 2 days on Oahu and 5 on Kauai. :)

Kevin....I too recommend not splitting your first week between two islands. Too much time wasted packing and unpacking amd time in the airport.

Even though Kauai is my favorite island, I%26#39;d suggest the first week on Oahu and then off to Maui.

We spent our honeymoon (pre TripAdvisor) on Oahu and had plenty to do for a week.

Congrats and happy planning.

moakley9: Your right on the flights. You can get flights on Hawaiian Airlines for 64$ one way flying morning or evening hours. If you don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be back go for it!! You will have plenty of time on Maui to relax if you want.

Pearl Harbor is a must see, I agree. I can get from Honolulu to Maui in 2 1/2 hrs. Thats traveling a half hour to the airport, 90 min. for check in and security and the half hour flight. Going to Kauai, you might tack on another half hour. 3 hrs. of time is very little considering the wonderful days you will be spending on Kauai!!
