A couple of days ago Lougee posted a report here in the Forum that visitors to Maui are down by 22% so it%26#39;s only a matter of time before the discounting begins. It appears the maybe the first wave is in...
Orbitz is offering deals to Maui (and all of Hawaii) that inlcude:
Westin KOR and Sheraton 3rd night free.
Kapalua Villas 5th night free
Outrigger even is offering $150 of grocery credit!
Let the Discount Begin
The only discount I got while I was there was for them to not charge the late fee on my snorkel gear from Maui Dive Shop :(
Let the Discount Begin
Sure would love it if the Sheraton waived that phony resort fee!
These look like typical fall offers to me.
I saw the grocery credit a least 4 weeks ago!
Indeed these rates/specials have been posted for a while now - but many are extending them later into the year instead of the original end dates of early fall. There again some were posting specials clear up until the week before Christmas. Nearly all are offering some good deals, but there are a few who are charging more in lieu of those free nights (not right in my opinion). Updates from Hyatt still say end dates for discounts are Aug 30 - so on and so on. The last minute discounts on hotels don%26#39;t make much difference if the last minute airfares are sky high. Most folks are still having to plan ahead, so I prefer clearly stated pricing and no nonsense rates.
Those pesky resort fees! Parking, internet, water, etc - now that is absolutely something I would like to see brought to an end.
Aloha VC,
I have also heard that a good place to look for some bargains are the VRBO%26#39;s that are not filling up. If I was an owner renting VRBO, I would much rather give a good discount and receive less income than normal as opposed to 0 income. Of course Chi Sue made a good point in one of her posts that you can%26#39;t expect an owner to rent too low and lose $ on the stay. The electricity alone just to run an A/C can run $300.00 or more a month. I think it is a good time to bargain with not only private owners, but the larger rental companies as well. Never hurts to try as long as you are not obnoxious about it.
Good point SBG,
I found a VRBO who need a few fill in dates and was more than welcome to dicker!! Good for us, cause I got to pick out the unit I wnated, not gamble!

Hey SantaBarbaraBeachGal. (was up in your neck of the woods last weekend. Had a nice getaway at the Upham and a great dinner at Stella Mare%26#39;s.)
You%26#39;re absolutely right about negotiating with the VRBO owners. I have a good friend who owns a nice place on Kauai. He%26#39;s mostly booked through most of 2009 but is willing to deal on his vacant weeks rather than have it sit idle.
And I completely agree with all of the other posters who complain about the resort fees. Unfortunately, these extra fees are almost a worldwide plague at nice hotels and resorts, not just a Maui issue. It%26#39;s unlikely they will go away any time soon.
Aloha VC,
You sure know how to choose your hotels...Upham is a beauty! Next time you%26#39;re here take a peek at The Canary on Carrillo with its rooftop pool, another elegant boutique hotel in the heart of downtown.
Regarding the parking fees, even at moderately priced condo resorts like the Kaanapali Shores, I always feel that they are an insult to the guests. I really think that these fees could be repealed if enough of the guests complained to the Management in any of the hotels/condo resorts. It is amazing what changes can be brought about when enough people voice their displeasure over a policy, especially in a slow market like we are in.
I have been on an almost constant search for discounts and deals haven%26#39;t really found any. Based on everything I have read thru forum I thought Mid-Oct would be our best bet. I went thru VRBO everything that I was interested in and some not really were fully booked, same with wizardpub. But I did get decent airfare 440.00 rt from portland, oregon direct flight and thanks to forum costco/alamo 2 weeks 212.00. So thank you. Wouldn%26#39;t have thought to check Costco. On that note are there coupons or 2 for one deals out there for excursions?
